Twilight buddy to perform tonight in Nashville

sam20bradleyHey everyone! Intern Justine here!

Tonight Nashville is going to have some Twilight influence. Singer-songwriter Sam Bradley (Never Think) will be performing at Nashville club 3rd & Lindsley.

Who is this Sam Bradley? Well, for all those Twilight fanatics out there, Sam’s song “Never Think” was featured on the Twilight soundtrack. The song was co-written and performed also by Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson.

Why perform in Nashville? Well, Sam finds Nashville an influence.

“As well as being a performer, writing is an avenue I wish to explore further, especially co-writing for other people and myself…Nashville is the place to do that,” says Sam.

You can catch Sam performing at 3rd & Lindsley tonight at 7p.m. Tickets are $15.

To catch more of Sam, he will be on tour with Thriving Ivory, and at the end of the month, he will be at  TwiCon, a three day Twilight convention in Dallas, Tx.

Rain won’t stop Fourth fireworks, but thunderstorms…?

Yes, storms will hit Middle Tennessee on Saturday, though we don’t know exactly when.

But organizers of Nashville’s riverfront Fourth of July bash told me repeatedly today that the event is rain or shine. Only severe storms could wash out Music City’s biggest annual event.

“It has to be pretty bad for us not to be able to shoot fireworks,” said Deana Ivey of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau, which throws the bash.

If it’s raining, the show will go on. If it’s raining hard and/or storming, they might consider canceling the music, but continuing with the fireworks.

If’s it’s a bad, bad storm — like even Noah is hiding — they will postpone the fireworks for 30 minutes and then make the call.

Of course, the storms could miss us all together. We should know better tomorrow.

Here’s the sked:

6:45 p.m.: Former Mayor Richard Fulton will be on hand for a brief presentation to mark the 25th anniversary of the riverfront Fourth of July bash.

7 p.m.: Fisk Jubilee Singers do the anthem, and then, Nashville pop-rocker Gabe Dixon takes the big stage.

8 p.m.: Headliner Wynonna performs.

9 p.m.: The fireworks.

Michael Jackson got an honorary Fisk degree in ‘88

And the Michael Jackson Nashville connections keep on rollin’ in.

Did you know, for instance, that Jackson got an honorary degree from Fisk University’s then president, Dr. Henry Ponder (pictured here), an a star-studded United Negro College Fund dinner in New York?

Among those in attendance: Whitney Houston, who sang, Liza Minnelli, Elizabeth Taylor, Yoko Ono, and Christy Brinkley.

It was believed to be the only honorary degree that Jackson had received to that point.

Then-President Ronald Reagan send a videotaped message that said, among other things, “Let me be the first to call you the new Dr. J.”

LeAnn Rimes and songwriter Thom Schuyler worked with kids at a Vandy camp for those with Williams Syndrome (which is like autism) today.

The kids just SCREAMED when she walked in, and each camper hugged LeAnn and posed for a pic and got an autograph. Very nice.

Jackson 5 mixed in Nashville in 1981, and Michael…

article-1088229-028cfdfb000005dc-698_468x5221… spent the whole time on the phone with Brooke Shields! But I’m getting ahead of myself.

Hey everyone! Intern Justine here.

As we all know, Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, passed away on June 25.

As the world mourns and remembers Michael, one Nashvillian shares her memories of when Michael and his brothers were in Nashville in 1981.

Lisa Byrd, now a Nashville realtor, recalls the memories of when the Jacksons’ came to Music City to mix music at the Quad Recording Studio on Music Row. She even had a picture of the brothers playing pool at the Quad, where she ran things then.

When asked about Michael, Lisa said that he was very nice — and that he did his own thing.

“Michael though spend two days in my office the whole time and on the phone with Brooke Shields, giggling and carrying on. They were big friends then,” says Lisa.

Another memory she remembers was Michael’s reaction to MTV, which was only three weeks old at the time.

“Michael stood up and said ‘we would never be involved with something this commercial,’ then probably two or three months after this visit, they were all over it,” says Lisa.

Not only were the Jacksons  here to mix tracks, but to perform their last Nashville concert at the Municipal Auditorium.
