Kenny Chesney says he's still coming out of the dark

Kenny Chesney got very candid with CMT Insider’s Katie Cook at his Nashville home about his 2005 split with Renee Zellweger.

Katie: You talk about how you went through a dark period. How bad would you say it got?
Kenny: Very.
Katie: Yeah?
Kenny: Uh huh.
Katie: Most people, if they get that down, they’ve got to do something about it. How did you pull yourself out of it?
Kenny: I’m still doing it.

Kenny also talks about his road to healing and how he found solice through music.

“It’s great. Music is therapy. … Really,” says Kenny.

Kenny’s new album, Lucky Old Sun, will be released Oct. 14. You can catch the rest of this indepth interview on CMT, Saturday at 12:30p.m.

Star of "Conway Twitty: The Musical" made the band cry

That’s how much he reminded Conway Twitty’s old band members of Conway himself.

Conway Twitty: The Musical stars Nashville singer-songwriter Glen Templeton as Conway, who died 15 years ago, after, among other things, scoring an amazing 55 No. 1 hits.

Glen got the job after he ended up hiring Conway’s daughter’s husband to do some backing vocals. Joni Twitty heard Glen sing and invited him to try out for the musical.

Not only was Joni convinced, but Conway’s band members were moved when they heard Glen sing Conway.

“Some of the guys were just crying, in tears, because they said that they thought Conway had been sent down tto sing with them again for a couple of hours,” Glen told me.

The show opens Sunday at TPAC before going down to Branson, Mo., for a run.

Gerry House and the House Foundation win it all!

Gary…oh wait, I mean Gerry House and the House Foundation, Nashville’s crazy country music personalities on the WSIX morning show, have won yet another CMA Broadcast Award for the large market Broadcast Personality of the Year.

And who better to break the news to the group then country artist Bucky Covington, who had a little trouble remembering how to pronounce Gerry’s name (Yeah, Gary House just doesn’t have the same ring to it).

The group has made a clean sweep of the awards scene this year, toting the honors of the Academy of Country Music Broadcasting Personality of the Year as well as Radio & Records Country Personality Show of the Year.

And from what I understand, this is the first time all three have been won in the same year. Congrads Gerry!

Gerry and company will be recognized at the upcoming CMA Awards Nov 12.

Half of Hall & Oates shows up for Jimmy Wayne bash

When Jimmy Wayne first landed a record deal, he did it by wowing label execs with his version of Hall & Oates song Sarah Smile.

Imagine how stoked Jimmy was to meet John Oates a few years back. Imagine how psyched Jimmy was to become friends and co-writers with John.

Imagine how stoked Jimmy was to have John at Jimmy’s No. 1 party today for Do You Believe Me Now. At the party, John played and sang with Jimmy on that song — and on Sarah Smile.

:)

Taylor Swift, Joe Jonas split -- if they were ever together

They perhaps were the hottest unconfirmed couple in the world.

Taylor Swift’s publicist has said repeatedly that she and Joe Jonas of Jonas Brothers fame were only ever friends. In fact, Taylor hung out with all three brothers, the publicist said.

That didn’t stop all sorts of “Joe showed up at Taylor’s concert” stories — and lots and lots of Web speculation.

Looks like E! Online kicked it up a notch: They have a story saying the unconfirmed couple is now officially split up.

The story says Joe dumped Taylor on the phone. If true, this could, of course, lead to half a dozen more No. 1 songs for Taylor.

Foreigner show surprise: Wynonna's a juke box hero?

Wynonna has been a longtime fan of that rock ‘n’ roll music.

You know that she and rockers Heart are good buddies.

Turns out Wy is gonna be the surprise guest at tonight’s Foreigner concert at the Wildhorse Saloon.

OK, so she’s not such a “surprise” any more. How about “special guest”?

You can’t get tix online after 3 p.m. today, but you can call the Wildhorse Saloon box office at 902-8211.

Vocal problems force LeAnn Rimes to cancel two shows

Well, technically speaking, LeAnn Rimes has out-and-out canceled only one show.

That’s Saturday in Charleston, W. Va.

LeAnn postponed tomorrow’s show, set for Norfolk, Va., saying she’ll reschedule that for her 2009 tour.

The reason:

“Her voice doctor has advised immediate vocal rest,” a post on LeAnn’s Web site says.

LeAnn says she’ll be back at it Oct. 17 in Lake Charles, La.

Blues/jazz great Keb' Mo' to play... Leiper's Fork?

I’m tellin’ ya, folks, that combination of rustic and rich really has some big stars coming out to Leiper’s Fork, Tenn., a Williamson County community where the stars love to buy farms.

You might recall Willie Nelson was out there last weekend to do a fund-raiser show for a guitar player’s family.

The, jazz great Keb’ Mo’ will be joining some local soulfuls for yet another fund-raiser, this one for an organization, Closer to Home, that helps poor folk in Williamson County. And yes, they do exist.

Keb’ Mo’ is set to play with hubby-wife team of guitarist Larry Carlton and vocalist Michele Pillar, who started the Closer to Home charity in honor of her late mom, who was a hard working single mom who sometimes needed a hand.

There are two shows, 7 p.m. Nov. 8 and 4 p.m. Nov. 9, both at Green’s Grocery in Leiper’s Fork, which is an uber-trendy rustic music room that once was a local grocery story.

To get tickets, call 591-7292 or go to Serenite Maison in Leiper’s Fork Village.

Kellie Pickler scores back-to-back No. 1 albums

First of all, I wanted to let you know I’ve had some unexpected time off to deal with a mystery stomach ailment that has had me out for a week or so. Some of my colleagues think I might be pregnant. Further testing awaits. But back to the star-studded news….

Mazel tov to Kellie Pickler, who scored No. 1 on Billboard’s country album charts this week with the debut of her sophomore album, called — get this — Kellie Pickler.

Oh, but this isn’t the first time, people.

Kellie’s first album, Small Town Girl, out in 2006, also debuted at No. 1.

Holy smokes! Her first two albums both debuted No. 1? That’s gotta be pretty unusual, right?

Correct, my fine feathered friends!

Kellie is only the sixth country artist to pull this off.

The last one to do so — Kellie’s label mate, Carrie Underwood.

Seen in the City: National media spots Keith, Nicole

Kids, are you catching presidential debate fever?

Lots of national media already are in town for Tuesday’s big Obama vs. McCain shindig at Belmont, and a couple of them already had a big-time Nashville experience.

One out-of-towner reports to me that he spotted Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman at the Bongo Java coffeehouse next to Belmont’s campus today (Saturday afternoon).

No, baby Sunday Rose was not in tow.

The spotting wasn’t just of interest to out-of-town reporters.

My spy tells me several 20-something ladies essentially lined up to talk to the celeb couple, who couldn’t have been nicer about sharing their time.
