RAC-ON!

The Raconteurs rocked out to a sold out crowd at City Hall Sunday night. The show was all I had anticipated and then some! I was so excited to be in the front row and one of only four or five photographers that legitimately took pictures. Here are a few!

After the show, the band headed to Sambuca where they dined upstairs, past the velvet rope. Jack White must really like that place, that’s the second time I’ve seen him eating there.

‘Kramer’ has comedy melt-down

Can you believe this story from TMZ.com?

michael_richards.jpgMichael Richards, a.k.a. “Kramer” from Seinfeld, starting tossing out racial slurs at an L.A. comedy club Friday night after a couple of black audience members said he wasn’t funny.

Some audience members laughed, but others left and others were outraged.

It was so horrible that even Jerry Seinfeld weighed in, issuing a statement.

“I’m sure Michael is also sick over this horrible, horrible mistake. It is so extremely offensive. I feel terrible for all the people who have been hurt,” he said.

Imogen Heap

imogen.jpg
Brit songstress Imogen Heap is playing tonight at City Hall! Heap’s breakthrough moment came in 2004, when her song Let Go was used as the soundtrack of Garden State. It was recorded under the moniker Frou Frou. Not long after the movie’s release, producers for The O.C. used several of her songs on the show.

Heap’s known as a one women wonder with her unique voice and the ability to doctor up her music, making a one of a kind electro-pop sound. I’m about to walk out the door to interview her, if you have any questions you would like me to ask then post them!

UPDATE: You can see the entire unedited interview on my video player! She was great!

COME ON ASHLEY JUDD!

ashley.jpg
Ashley Judd is scheduled to make a special appearance tonight at the Regal Green Hills Cinema for a movie screening! Judd stars in the film Come Early Morning as an unstable southern women. The screening is exclusive for Nashville Film Festival members and there will be a special Q & A panel following the film.

Bachelor says gun dad was kidding

Prince Lorenzo Borghese, the star of The Bachelor: Rome, blames editing for making Jennifer’s dad look like a gun nut who was threatening the prince.

lorenzo.gif“He was really being humorous,” Lorenzo told me this morning in a satellite interview. “It wasn’t as serious as it appeared.”

On the show, you see Jennifer’s dad, during hometown visits, pumping a shotgun and telling Lorenzo that was reserved for guys who disrespect his daughter.

Lorenzo said today that he was showing off his gun collection, that the guns were unloaded and that the dad had been joking around a lot before delivering his not-so-veiled threat.

So Lorenzo wasn’t worried or annoyed at all.

Perhaps a big scarier: Tonight is the “women tell all” episode.

And the finale happens a week from tonight on News 2.

Chicks sell 9,000+ tix for GEC show

Yes, there has been a ton o’ controversy about the Dixie Chicks, their anti-war statements and their feelings about country radio, which hasn’t been playing anything from the new album.

dixie-chicks.jpgDespite all that, the Chicks have sold more than 9,000 tickets — or better than 2/3 of the house — for the Dec. 1 GEC show.

In fact, the South is the only place the Chicks haven’t been selling out arena, and album sales — again with no country radio play — have exceeded two million.

Concert tour promoter Louie Messina says people who go to the show will hear good music, not political preaching.

“(Lead singer) Natalie (Maines) says she’s got it all out of her system,” Messina tells me.

Tour organizers also point out that even in “weak” markets, the Chicks are outdrawing most other country acts.

One additional challenge the Chicks may face: The Christmas parade also happens Dec. 1, so some streets will be closed off by the arena that night. Alternative traffic and parking plans are expected to be released today.

TOMKAT HONEYMOON!

e112003a.jpg Newlyweds Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes jetted off on their honeymoon to the Maldives today, according to Melbourne Herald Sun. This after their fairy tale wedding in a 15th century castle in Italy. More than 150 guests attended Saturday, including Brooke Shields, Jennifer Lopez and Jim Carrey.

Katie wore an off-the-shoulder Armani gown, and carried an Armani bouquet of calla lilies. She donned a champagne Armani evening gown at the reception. Cruise wore a navy blue Armani tux.

Cruise and Holmes made their marriage official in Los Angeles, prior to their departure for Italy. Church of Scientology ceremonies are not legally recognized in Italy.

THE Story Tellers…

rac.jpeg Everyday the boss man asks, “What is THE local entertainment story of the day?” On Fridays, I tend to look ahead at what’s happening over the weekend. There are some great shows this weekend, but I can’t seem to get over The Raconteurs at City Hall!

The band, featuring Jack White from the White Stripes is one of my favorites! Apparently others agree…the show is already sold out in the Warehouse that holds 1,500 people!

So…do you know what the heck Raconteur means? By definition, Raconteur is one who tells stories and anecdotes with skill and wit. Uh-huh…this remains so true for these guys! Their wicked guitar sounds could stand alone as stories, but their lyrics seal the deal!

Here’s a prime example from their website:
“REMEMBER A TIME WHEN ALL WAS NOT FINE AND UP FROM THE DINGY SEWERS CAME FOUR LOUSY THIEVES WHO FLOURISHED LIKE TREES, BEHOLD THE RACONTEURS…”

I can’t wait and running into Jack White around town hasn’t killed any of the excitement for me!

Other good shows this weekend- Saturday night How I Became The Bomb will play at Mercy Lounge and Be Your Own Pet will rock out The End!

What do you think the entertainment story of the day is?

Carrie headlines T-giving halftime

The sports world just LOVES Carrie Underwood.

She has done the anthem for football’s NFC Championship game. Carrie sang at the last NBA All-Star game.

carrieIII.bmpAnd did you catch her at Pittsburgh’s PNC Park this summer for baseball’s All-Star game?

Back to football: Carrie will be the headliner for the halftime show at this year’s annual Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game.

It’s the show that officially launches the Salvation Army Red Kettle fundraiser drive for the holidays.

Carrie will stand there and ring a bell for 26 minutes straight.

OK, not really. She’ll sang some songs.

But Carrie says she’s psyched, mostly because she and her relatives have spent several Thanksgiving afternoons watching the Cowboys play football.
