Circus Legend Flying On…
It’s been a week of tears and heartache after the passing of Duina Zacchini Norman. What an honor it was having such an amazing lady in my life. Most of her family and close friends knew her as “Nanu.”
There was no question when “Nanu” entered a room that she was a legand…her spark, wit and downright bluntness was enough to entertain one for weeks to come.
Norman, a member of a famed circus family, was known as the ballerina of the air with her amazing trapeze performances. She told me her father created the first double human cannonball and she was the first female shot through the air.
Nanu traveled the world performing the cannonball act for more than 20 years. She made the cover of Life magazine, several appearances in movies and she was featured on Ed Sullivan’s TV variety show. NASA even asked Norman to be the first female to fly to space, but she declined.
Once Noram settled down to raise her family in Nashville, she opened Pia’s Antiques.
Duina Norman died this Wednesday, at 82. She is being buried Monday in Tampa.
“Nanu“ was and always will be the queen of the circus to me.
Almost a year ago I took her to the circus, you can watch the story on my video player. It is the story she told me, which differs a little from her obituary.
Meet Niki Taylor…
Tonight is your chance to meet supermodel Niki Taylor. She will be hosting a holiday open house at her upscale boutique Abbie and Jesse’s in Franklin.
Taylor, who was one of the faces of Cover Girl and a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model, today is focused on building her fashion empire at the shop she opened last year.
Taylor is 31 and a mother of two 11-year-old twins, Jake and Hunter. The boys are from Taylor’s three-year marriage to Arena Football League player Matt Martinez. Taylor also dated country music star Keith Urban on and off in 2002 and 2003 and this year she got engaged to NASCAR driver Burney Lamar.
Abbie and Jesse’s is located in Cool Springs and %15 of all proceeds today benefit Mercy Ministries. Taylor is expected to arrive at 6 PM.
Music Row makes Titans fight song
Can you believe the Titans are in Music City USA but they don’t have a fight song from some of our music-making stalwarts?
Neither could country-soul singer T. Graham Brown and his wife, Sheila. So they wrote one.
It’s called Keep on Fightin’ Titans, and you can hear it HERE.
His Royal T-Ness wrote it with band and posse members Mike Caputy, Bobby King, Joe McGlohon, Jeff Jordan and Dennis Wage and Jody Jackson.
Guitar god/songwriter Steve Cropper (Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay) added his axman magic, and Music Row veteran Eddie Gore mixed it up.
Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher and several players have heard the fist-pumping anthem and they like it.
But no one’s quite sure what might happen with this song. Stay tuned.

Oprah’s Man In Town!
Before heading to the Grand Ole Opry House to speak, Stedman Graham stopped by News 2 and talked with me! He is in town to promote his book Diversity Leaders Not Labels.
Stedman says he’s never been to the Opry, but likes country music and Nashville! “It’s hard to beat good weather, good solid people and a strong historical background based on what country and western has given to this world.” Stedman added, “I have had some good BBQ in town!”
After all these years why hasn’t he married Oprah?
Stedman said, “She has a big life and I have a big life…I am proud to be with her and know her and love her.”
Oprah and Stedman have plans to go to Africa this Christmas, where Oprah has been building a school.
