Sister trio everlife hearts Hannah Montana
You know that Nashville Christian sister group everlife has a song in the movie and the trailer for Penelope, the pig-nose girl movie that opens tonight.
Turns out everlife and one-time Nashvillian Miley Cyrus, a.k.a. Hannah Montana, are buds. And they’re so close that Miley invited the sisters out on the road with her for the last week of the uber-popular Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana arena tour.
everlife had a blast, even getting to do a song with Miley in the middle of the show, and coming back out at show’s end to take a bow with Miley.
Here’s an interview with everlife about life on the road with Miley. Pretty funny stuff. The girls fave random celebrity on the road: Shaq. Really funny stuff there.
Vince/Amy to play tornado fund-raiser
Vince Gill and Amy Grant – Nashville’s First Couple of Charity Events — are jumping into helping tornado victims.
Vince and Amy are calling on buddies Tommy Sims and Sammy Sylvester. And of course, there’s always the unexpected surprise guests. (Well, I guess if they were expected they really wouldn’t be a “surprise” now, would they? I am soooooo smart. But I digress.)
The event happens at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Factory in Franklin. Strong Tower Bible Church is putting it on.
The admission price: a box of non-perishable food or a gift card. Organizers also will collect cash donations at the show.
Barbara to read for the kids… and the dogs
Barbara Mandrell is a big fan of the canines.
So it’s no surprise that she said yes when her fellow animal lover and country artist, Emmylou Harris, asked Barbara to do an event to raise awareness of the Metro Animal Care and Control.
Barbara will read children’s books at the center, 5125 Harding Place, near the airport, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
And if that’s not enough, there will be face painting and balloons and refreshments — and you don’t even have to clean up after any of the dogs.
But while you’re there, Barbara wants to you check out the dogs and see if you might not want to adopt one.

Seen in the City: Carrie and her roomie
Did ya see Carrie Underwood today at the Mall of Green Hills with an Owen Wilson look alike?
No, that wasn’t Owen Wilson.
And no, it wasn’t Carrie’s rumored beau, The Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford.
It’s Carrie’s childhood friend/new roommate/assistant, Matt.
Carrie told reporters a few months ago that she felt safer having someone in the house with her.
It’s not that Williamson County is particularly dangerous: It’s that lots of folks locally know where Carrie lives, and sometimes things can get a little weird, so…..
Today, Carrie and Matt were spotted at the Cheesecake Factory and Restoration Hardware, where Carrie was looking at some candles, as any All-American girl would.
Kenny offers some cheap seats for July 5
Think that tix to big-time concerts are getting out of control? Kenny Chesney wants to reach those folks too for his July 5 show at LP Field.
Kenny’s offering what he’s calling a “Shiftwork section,” so named for his latest single saluting blue-collar shift workers. Those tix will be $29.50, and a spokesman says there will be “a few thousand” of ‘em.
All the tix go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday through Ticketmaster outlets. Keith Urban, Sammy Hagar, LeAnn Rimes and Gary Allan are all also on the bill.
“We are so busy out on the road, we don’t even get to play Nashville every year,” Kenny said in a statement.
“So when me and the guys get to play at home, we wanna make sure we do it right! It’s a big night for us, and we don’t want anybody to feel excluded, or like this isn’t something they can be a part of.
“People may think I’m crazy, but to me, it’s the only way to let the folks back home know how glad we are to be there, to be hanging out with the people I live with.”
This is an awesome idea. I just hope those tix don’t end up in the hands of those shiftwork scalpers.
Toby and CMT give it another movie go
You might recall that Toby Keith and CMT teamed up for the movie Broken Bridges, with John Travolta’s wife, Kelly Preston, as Toby’s co-star.
That had some mixed results: The limited-release opening weekend in theaters was weak, but CMT has sold more than 1.5 million copies of the DVD, and the re-runs on CMT bring high ratings.
Maybe the second time’s a charm. Toby is doing a movie called Beer for My Horses, which, as did the music video, will have Willie Nelson has a star.
Also committed to the project is quite the random collection o’ stars: the beautiful Claire Forlani (CSI: NY, who is pictured), guitar god/bow hunter Ted Nugent, Barry Corbin, (No Country For Old Men, Dukes of Hazzard), and Tom Skerritt (the dead dad in Brothers and Sisters).
Toby wrote the movie with comedian Rodney Carrington, who is also in the film, playing Toby’s buddy.
It’s about, well, I’ll let Toby’s publicist tell you: “Small town deputies and best friends who defy the local sheriff to embark on an outrageous road trip to save one of their girlfriends from drug lord kidnappers.”
I’m told it’s a comedy/action-adventure. Oh, the hijinx.
Sorry, ya won’t see any filming here. That happens through March in New Mexico. The film hits theaters in the summer.
John Rich: Making local dreams come true!
When John Rich first came here as a teen-ager, he used to sneak into a well-worn Trinity Lane bar known as the Broken Spoke. And it wasn’t because he was getting served alcohol there.
Instead, there was a regular talent contest there, with a screener named Judi Martin, who used to pay actual cash prizes to the top three finishers. Folks like Tracy Byrd, Trace Adkins and Tracey Lawrence were among the competitors. (Apparently, you needed to have a certain first name to win there.) And some powerful Music Row types would watch.
Anyhoo, for some reason, it occured to John that there were no such beast in town anymore. So he’s starting his own, called “Get Rich Talent Search.” (Get it?)
“There’s probably a kid parking cars somewhere that’s like, he knows he’s a superstar, but he doesn’t know the first thing about how he’s gonna get there,” John told me.
Well now here’s a path.
Starting March 31, John is gonna line up 10 folks to compete the final Monday of every month at 12th & Porter. John’ll pick ‘em from whatever entries he gets when you e-mail GetRichTalentSearch@gmail.com. If you do that, you’ll get back info on where to send your CDs and pictures and bio info.
Top prize: $300. Not bad, yo! Second place is $200 and Third is $100.
John also promises to have powerful Music Row types there, the types who might sign you to a record deal or put you in touch with awesome songwriters and/or producers.
Pig nose ‘Penelope’ has two local ties
So you know about this Penelope movie, with Christina Ricci playing a rich girl with a pig nose?
Did you know that ex-longtime Nashvillian Reese Witherspoon is the producer?
Reese started her own production company, Type A Films, and Penelope is the company’s big debut.
“This was the first film that we found the script, found the director and did all the heavy lifting,” Reese tells People.
“It had a really great female character who was strong, ambitious, but definitely had a journey to go through to get to the place where she would find herself.”
The movie also has a soundtrack song from Nashville Christian sister act everlife, which just came off the road opening for the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus tour.
I talked to the sisters this morning, and they are quite psyched to have a song they co-wrote, Find Yourself In You, in the movie.
Reba to host ACM awards show, again
Looks like the two big-time country awards shows are changing places.
For years, the CMA Awards had Vince Gill as host and the ACM Awards show was either unhosted or always changing hosts.
Now it’s flipped. The CMAs had an unhosted show in the fall.
And today, the ACMs are announcing that Reba McEntire will be back, for a 10th time. And this’ll be, like, her fourth or fifth year in a row.
The ACMs happen May 18 in Las Vegas.
They’ll air on CBS.
Hannah Montana comes to CMT Awards
This morning, CMT announces that Miley Cyrus, a.k.a. Hannah Montana, will co-host the CMT Music Awards with her daddy, Billy Ray Cyrus.
The bad news: The show — April 14 at the Curb Event Center at Belmont University — is sold out, and has been since before Miley and Daddy were announced as hosts.
The good news: CMT says there will be some opportunities to get tix that’ll be announced next week.
We’ll keep ya posted.
Billy Ray and Miley also are set to do a performance during the show.
Already announced: Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, Sugarland, Taylor Swift and Toby Keith.
