CMA Music Fest is comin’: Taylor to sign for 6 hours

Some folks who go the annual CMA Music Festival complain that country’s big stars don’t sign autographs at signing booth anymore.

Don’t put Taylor Swift in that category.

Taylor is announcing more than a week away that she will be in her record label’s booth in the convention center all day Saturday.

She will sign autographs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — the entire time the “Fan Fair Hall” in the convention center will be open that day.

Kix Brooks of Brooks & Dunn has made multi-hour unannounced stops in the convention center for the last few CMA Music Fests in a row.

But other than that, the number of A-list stars who spend multiple hours signing autographs in the convention center lately: 0. Null set. Zip.

Seen in the City: Jessica clutches a puppy and a Louis

You’ve just started hearing her first ever country single, Come On Over, on the radio.

Now you’re seeing her all over town.

Jessica Simpson was spotted Wednesday night at new Latin fusion restaurant/bar Lime, on Broadway. She was with a nice sized posse.

The posse member getting the most attention: The lap dog she had stowed in a Louis Vuitton pet tote. (Sniff sniff!) Jess was in jean, hair down, looking cool and casual.

Some dudes tried the ol’ “Oh isn’t your dog cute?” approach to talk to Jessica, and she chatted with them, for a little while, anyway. J. Simp left around 11 p.m.

On Tuesday night, Jessica and five or so other folks shared some appetizers at equally trendy Radius 10 in the Gulch.

I hope I run into her when I’m at Cracker Barrel. Yummy!

Two Nashville-made albums hit top 5 in album sales

And the No. 1 selling album in all the land –

Rock band 3 Doors Down (Here Without You) sold more than 154,000 copies of its new self-titled album.

Yes, it was made in Nashville. And yes, lead singer Brad Arnold and a couple of the guys now live in Middle Tennessee. They even had their album release party last week in Green Hills, at the Greenhouse bar.

So congrats to our new neighbors, who now have two straight albums that have debuted atop the Billboard 200 all-genre sales chart.

Finishing at No. 3 — Two-time Dancing with the Stars champ Julianne Hough, whose first-ever country album, Julianne Hough, sold 67,000 copies. Julianne’s first single, That Song in My Head, continues to creep up country radio single charts, where it’s now at No. 29.

The rest of the top 5 — No. 2 is rapper Bun B. whose II Trill album debuts with 98,000 in sales. No. 4 is the Frank Sinatra retrospective, Nothing But the Best, which sold 54,000 copies and No. 5 is Death Cab for Cutie’s Narrow Stairs, which sold 53,000 copies.

Yes, Chris’ fan club party is the same day as court, but…

MusicCityTV.com reader “Ron” poses this question:

“Chris Cagle has his fan club party on June 3rd. What happens with that?”

Excellent question, Ron! He saw where Chris has his first court date on a domestic violence charge scheduled for June 3, which is CMA Music Festival week, when artists, including Chris, have their fan club parties.

The answer to Ron’s query comes from Chris’ publicist, Kat Atwood, who says he’ll be able to do both.

“Chris will be at his Fan Club Party as scheduled and he’s looking forward to spending a fun afternoon with the Cagleheads,” she writes.

Fans gets to meet ‘Hannah Montana’ stars

So 5-year-old Julianna Ruth Mills of Brentwood went shopping yesterday, and she ended up with pictures of Hollywood stars.

Julianna’s parents were nice enough to send along these two pics.

The one is with Jason Earles.

As you Hannah Montana fans know, Jason plays Miley’s brother, Jackson, on the TV show.

And he apparently will play the same role in the movie.

 

Another picture is with Vanessa Williams.

You News 2 viewers know her as the conniving Wilhelmina Slater on ABC’s Ugly Betty.

Vanessa has been in town for a week or two.

She apparently is playing the role of Hannah Montana’s pushy publicist.

A scene done yesterday in the shoes department of Belk in Cool Springs Galleria.

Vanessa stood by while Hannah Montana and Tyra Banks fought over a pair of shoes.

 

And last but not least, here’s a shot of four year old Mufreesboro resident Olivia Oropesa with Miley.

Lucky.

Olivia is a huge Hannah Montana fan who happened to be in Columbia and convinced her mom, Tania, to hang out just long enough to get her Hannah Montana purse autographed.

She also lucked out and got this nice picture from inside the Maury County Courthouse where filming took place late last week.

Chris and Jennifer: Reunited and it feels so good

So you probably saw where country singer Chris Cagle (It’s a Beautiful Day) and his girlfriend were arrested after getting into a fight early this morning at their Bellevue apartment.

You may have even seen where Cagle told police he wanted his girlfriend, Jennifer Tant, “out of his life.”

I mean, look at the his-and-hers mug shots.

My, what a difference 10 hours in jail makes.

Chris and Jennifer left Metro Jail around 4:30 p.m., and they were together.

Chris’ publicist and attorney picked up the couple, who looked happy to be with each other, may have even been holding each other’s hands.

Chris publicist said she had no comment on any of the incidents.

When asked if Chris and Jennifer were friendly again, she said, “it appears that way.”

Chris has a court appearance June 3.

If you see more paparazzi in town, it could be Miley…

There’s a bounty on Miley Cyrus‘ lips, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The newspaper reports that mags will pay from $30,000 to $150,000 for a pic of Miley’s first public kiss.

Zoinks! That’s up to $75,000 a lip.

But I digress.

That’s why, the newspaper says, packs of shooters have been camped outside her North Hollywood home, her fave shops in Malibu, her church, and yes, even here in Nashville.

No comment on the bounty from her peeps.

Seen in the City: Tyra and Vanessa and Miley, oh my!

That’s right, the A-listers keep on comin’ to Music City for the Hannah Montana movie.

My buddy Steph in the City reports that Tyra Banks made her first public appearance in the movie.

Tyra, Vanessa Williams and Miley Cyrus all were in the shoe department today at the Belk store in the Cool Springs Galleria.

Steph says she saw a scene where Miley argued over a pair of shoes with Tyra while Vanessa Williams stood close by.

Steph also reports Miley’s double leaped on top of Tyra, and the super model/TV host tossed the young girl over a couch.

Miley’s attire: A rhinestone jacket, pink dress and shiny heels. Tyra: black leggings and a black long shirt. She also had a double on hand.

Chris Cagle, his girlfriend arrested after hitting each other

Country music star Chris Cagle (What Kinda Gone) and his girlfriend will both be in jail until at least 4 p.m. today after both were arrested overnight for domestic violence.

Cagle and his girlfriend, Jennifer Tant, both got drunk at a Bellevue bar and started arguing when they got to their nearby apartment on Old Hickory Boulevard, according to a police affidavit.

The argument turned physical and Chris hit her with her purse after she hit him in the head with an umbrella, police said. They were both arrested when neither would leave the apartment, police said.

Here’s a highlight from the affidavit that Jennifer took out on Chris:

“Both parties were intoxicated. The defendant and the victim were having a verbal argument on the way home from a local bar. Once at the listed location, the argument became physical. Both parties struck each other, resulting in visible marks. The defendant had a raised area on the right side of his head while the victim had a scrape on her upper left lip and a sore/red left upper arm. The defendant was struck in the head with an umbrella while the victim was struck in the head with a purse. The defendant also stated that he pushed the victim away. Both parties stated they were not going to leave the location. The defendant stated that the location was his house, he was not leaving and that the victim needed to leave and get out of his life.”

Chris and his girlfriend were in night court shortly after 6 a.m. (Doesn’t that make it “morning court”? I digress.)

This is Cagle’s second arrest on violence charges in two years. Police in Tucson, Ariz., arrested Cagle after a benefit show in December for punching an aggressive autograph seeker’s boyfriend in the face. There’s a hearing on those charges in September.

Chris’ publicist says she has no comment this morning on the overnight arrests.

Chris has recently reemerged on radio charts after taking a break for a few years. Chris scored a No. 3 hit with What Kinda Gone, the first single from the album, My Life’s Been a Country Song, released in February.

He has had several top 10 hits, including Laredo, Chicks Dig It and I Breathe In, I Breathe Out.
