Country music star Chris Cagle (What Kinda Gone) and his girlfriend will both be in jail until at least 4 p.m. today after both were arrested overnight for domestic violence.

Cagle and his girlfriend, Jennifer Tant, both got drunk at a Bellevue bar and started arguing when they got to their nearby apartment on Old Hickory Boulevard, according to a police affidavit.

The argument turned physical and Chris hit her with her purse after she hit him in the head with an umbrella, police said. They were both arrested when neither would leave the apartment, police said.

Here’s a highlight from the affidavit that Jennifer took out on Chris:

“Both parties were intoxicated. The defendant and the victim were having a verbal argument on the way home from a local bar. Once at the listed location, the argument became physical. Both parties struck each other, resulting in visible marks. The defendant had a raised area on the right side of his head while the victim had a scrape on her upper left lip and a sore/red left upper arm. The defendant was struck in the head with an umbrella while the victim was struck in the head with a purse. The defendant also stated that he pushed the victim away. Both parties stated they were not going to leave the location. The defendant stated that the location was his house, he was not leaving and that the victim needed to leave and get out of his life.”

Chris and his girlfriend were in night court shortly after 6 a.m. (Doesn’t that make it “morning court”? I digress.)

This is Cagle’s second arrest on violence charges in two years. Police in Tucson, Ariz., arrested Cagle after a benefit show in December for punching an aggressive autograph seeker’s boyfriend in the face. There’s a hearing on those charges in September.

Chris’ publicist says she has no comment this morning on the overnight arrests.

Chris has recently reemerged on radio charts after taking a break for a few years. Chris scored a No. 3 hit with What Kinda Gone, the first single from the album, My Life’s Been a Country Song, released in February.

He has had several top 10 hits, including Laredo, Chicks Dig It and I Breathe In, I Breathe Out.
