Mystery solved! Vanessa's in 'Hannah Montana' movie
I posted earlier today that Ugly Betty villain Vanessa Williams was spotted having dinner last night at a Brentwood restaurant.
It was a Thai restaurant called Jasmine, near Publix on Moores Lane.
So I’ve ended up answering my own question: Vanessa is here to be in the Hannah Montana movie.
She’s is playing the part of Hannah’s pushy publicist.
I will be sending an Ugly Betty T-shirt to myself for answering my question. Mazel tov to me.
Jessica and Tony were at the wedding together....
I know you’ve been breathlessly following the are-they-or-aren’t-they-broken-up story of Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo.
After all, Nashville’s guys wanna know if they can try their best moves the next time Jessica is in town working on her upcoming country album.
Well, here’s some more info for ya.
People magazine was at the wedding of Jessica’s sis, singer/ex-reality TV star Ashlee Simpson, to rocker Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy.
Yes, there is at least one pic of Jessica and Tony together.
BUT, that may not mean anything. There are reports are that Papa Joe Simpson asked Tony to come to the wedding to be Jess’ date.
So, as usual, I have only served to further muddy the waters.
Indie rocker KT Tunstall: Where's veggie food in the 'ville?
KT Tunstall put about 1,500 fans in the 2,100-seat Ryman, but these were some devoted, adoring fans, yo.
One fan yelled out: “I love you.” KT’s response: “I love you too. That makes me kind of easy, doesn’t it?”
Of course, this is the same fan (male) who shouted out, “KT, I wanna have your baby.” KT seemed open.
She just loved the fans. After doing her first song, KT realized her audio monitors at the front of the stage might be blocking the fans’ view, so she asked Ryman techs to move them.
“I bet the people who bought front-row seats didn’t pay to watch a black box all night,” she said, sparking cheers from the crowd.
News 2 producers extraordinaire (they made me put that) Erica Simmons and Corinne Gensler report she did her radio hits, including Suddenly I See (which turned into a mini-jam).
They loved KT! But what does she think of us?
KT says she loves Nashville because she loves the guitar shops.
One thing she doesn’t love about Music City: The meat.
“It’s hard to ask for a slab of carrots,” the vegetarian said.
KT did make several references to the musical holiness of the Ryman, saying at one point, “I can’t believe we pulled this off.”
Speaking of pulling it off, another male fan shouted — after KT talked about Nashville’s warm weather — “Take it off!”
She did not.
Seen in the City: Sheryl Crow spotted in East Nashville
OK, so Sheryl Crow lives here, but still, it’s fun to see her ’round town.
Our very own pasty white Conan look-alike, Scott (I’d rather be a rock star) Fralick, was at East Nashville music hip-eteria Family Wash when he spotted our fave Tuesday Night Music Club star.
Scott reports that Prius-driving Sheryl, sans baby, was there to see her pal, Greta Gaines.
For the uninitiated, Greta is a one-time MTV host/snowboarding champ/alt-country singer.
Greta has a new album out and she was sharing it with the East Nashville faithful.
Scott (and his wife, Amy, he adds quickly) both thought Sheryl looked incredible.
Sheryl was there with friends, including singers/songwriters Holly Williams and Chris Janson, and they all seemed to have a fine time.
Quick aside: Check out Chris Janson Saturday night at 3rd & Lindsley.
'Ugly Betty' star Vanessa Williams dines in... Brentwood?
She’s the Ugly Betty star you love to hate.
After five or six double takes, diners at Jasmine, a Thai restaurant in Brentwood, thought they saw the lovely Vanessa Williams in their midst.
A server confirms that it was indeed the actress whose character is trying to take over the Mead magazine empire.
Vanessa was spotted with another woman.
Some guessed it might be a publicist type from New York or L.A.
I’ll try to find out more, and if you know, please do e-mail at brad@wkrn.com.
We’ll find you an Ugly Betty poster or T-shirt or something.
Kenny: 'You, the fans, are the reason I keep pushing....'
Kenny Chesney posted a MySpace message today – in the aftermath of an ACM controversy — that tells fans he loves them.
On Sunday, Kenny told media, after winning Entertainer of the Year, that he didn’t approve of the ACM’s changing the top trophy from industry-voted to fan-voted.
In today’s post, Kenny said that some media incorrectly spun the story to say he was ungrateful. Kenny said that just wasn’t so.
“Please know,” he blogged, “I love you. I believe in you – and the way you believe in this music, these nights we get to share, the way it call comes together when we’re together.”
Kenny wrote that his fans should revel in music they love instead of analyzing the work of the artists who make it.
“To me, Entertainer of the Year is about the work that goes into it. I don’t ever want you worrying about the work; I want you living the songs… being in the moment of the music… finding your life on the radio, whether it’s something easy like Summertime or a song that helps you through a rough time like I Go Back or There Goes My Life,” he wrote.
“That was my point. Let the people who do the work, judge the work part of it… let the fans love what we do for that. And that was what I was being asked about… what a lot of people in the business were talking about… and frankly something an awful lot of artists and business people have told me they not only agree with, but something the entire media room applauded pretty resoundingly after I addressed it Sunday night.
“Sure, to make me sound ungrateful is a sexy way to spin this to drive viewers. It’s controversy, and that sells. But realistically – and based on the response in our fan forum – you know how important you are to me, how much I believe in the way we’ve all built this together. You, the fans, are the reason I keep pushing, keep striving, keep wanting to be more and better.
“When I stood on the stage and said ‘this means the world to me,’ I meant it… because it means not only am I blessed with the best fans in the world, but you guys were willing to stand up for us and be counted. It’s not the same award… given for the same things… but knowing how much you care, how much you believe in this dream, well, that is everything.
“So please know… I love you. I believe in you – and the way you believe in this music, these nights we get to share, the way it call comes together when we’re together. There is nothing like the feeling of being out there with you guys… and I live my whole life just for those moments. Thank you for that, because in the end, that is what matters the most to me.”
Carrie to bring the only estrogen to 'Idol' finale
It’s a battle of the Davids, right?
This season’s American Idol finale pits teeny teen David Archuleta vs. David Cook.
The results show is Wednesday.
And the best selling Idol contestant of all time, one Carrie Underwood, will be part of the mix.
She’s gonna sing her latest, Last Name.
And maybe the judges toss out the Davids and Carrie can win all over again!
'People': Shania and Mutt split over a Swiss Miss
People wins the race for floating the first theory for why Shania Twain and producer Robert (Mutt) Lange split after 14 years.
People’s sources blame another woman.
Said splitter-upper: Marie-Anne Thiebaud, longtime secretary and manager of the couple’s chateau. It’s ALWAYS the chateau manager!! But I digress.
“Mutt and Marie-Anne left their spouses for each other and are still in a relationship,” one source tells People.
Mutt says that that rumor about his Swiss Miss is wrong.
“It’s absolutely not the reason [for the separation],” he said.
Mutt further denies he and Marie-Anne are romantically involved.
Lascassas Elementary kids spell w-e-l-l
I got to host the Lascassas Elementary third-grade spelling bee today, and I’ve gotta say, I’m glad I had the answers in front of me. FYI, the word “remnant” can really trip up a kid.
Special surprise celeb: Former Lonestar lead singer Richie McDonald was there to cheer on his third-grader, Mollie. Richie has an inspirational album out in June, a solo country album out this fall.
Anyhoo, the kids were great. Check out the pics.
Gospel groups honor Dottie Rambo with her songs
Dottie Rambo wrote more than 2,000 gospel songs, songs that were recorded by a whole range of stars, from Elvis Presley to Whitney Houston to Porter Wagoner. So it seems only appropriate that a dozen or so of her biggest songs were performed at today’s funeral.
The Isaacs, the Oak Ridge Boys, the Crabb Family and Lulu Roman were among those who performed songs that included I Will Glory in the Cross, I Go to the Rock, Behold the Lamb, I Will Lift You There and others.
Barbara Mandrell spoke, called Ms. Rambo her “heroine.”
And a pastor read a greeting from President Bush, who also sent the family the U.S. flag that was flying above the White House on Mother’s Day, the day Ms. Rambo died in a bus crash in Missouri.
Ms. Rambo’s body will be in a mausoleum at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Memorial Park.
