Kenny Chesney's guitarist lands him some sugar (Get it?)
So those of you who saw Kenny Chesney’s show Saturday night at LP Field saw one unannounced guest pop up on stage.
That would be Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland. And many of you wondered: Hmmmm, Kenny is single, and Jennifer recently got divorced, so she’s single…. Does Jennifer think Kenny’s tractor is sexy?
Uh, I dunno.
But I do know that Jennifer is dating Kenny’s main guitarist, Clayton Mitchell.
And this little love connection has been going on for more than 9 months.
How’s about that? I asked, but no comment from either camp.

Its seems to be going on for almost a year. Funny how they are seen together quite a bit in public over the past 9 months but have not spoken in public about it. By the way Clayton will appear on their new CD as a co-writer to one of the tracks. I guess soon more questions will be asked. hmmmmm…..

I knew it wouldn’t be long for this to happen. I knew someone would end up posting it for all the world to see. I agree with the above comment. I do think it’s interesting how it is quite obvious that Jennifer and Clayton are together, but neither has said a word. And I agree also when Sugarfan says that more questions will be asked once people find out that Clayton is a co-writer of a new SL song. But hey, it had to happen sometime. I am very happy for both Jen and Clayton, they make a very cute couple.

Yeah I agree Jennifer is very classy the way she handles her private life. Her dating Clayton though has not been extremely private since they are seen at awards together and on each others tour. She just doesn’t flaunt it to the extreme as other artists do. Makes it seem more important and real. Again good for them.

He just seems like a playboy to me. I’ve seen him at different several different concerts with hoochies on each arm. I hope that looks and actions are deceiving and that he is a good guy. I want him to be a good guy for Jennifer, she deserves to be happy.

From what I can tell and know he is not like that. But let’s give Jennifer some credit she has been dating him a while and knows him well and is too smart. I think they are pretty good together and from what we have seen he seems pretty taken by her. It is a big investment to allow him to co-write a song on the their new CD and promote him doing so if he was not all good of a guy. By the way do you notice the ring he wears on his righthand. Its been there since March and throughout the tour. I never saw him wear such a thing before. A connection to his relationship maybe?

I have no clue how serious but only see things and wonder. Sometimes things like the ring could mean something especially when a guy wears it. Also and it could be nothing but notice Jenn wearing a ring on her righthand when on stage at the Kenny concerts? This supposedly her downtime. Just wonder thats all.

A ring on a right hand doesn’t mean what a left hand ring would, but it’s something to keep an eye on. But I will tell you that Jen always has a ring on that is her class ring. Is that what you’re talking about?

Hmmm. That’s odd. Jennifer always wears her class ring. At least, that’s what I’ve read. Do you know what the ring you saw was? I won’t be going to any KC shows. If the ring you saw looked to be a diamond, then we have a bigger fish to fry, so to speak.

No don’t mind at all. Its hard to tell from the pics (no closeups) but i think you can see some gems maybe diamonds on it something sparkly. It seems goldish but no one big gem thats for sure. She was wearing it again on the GAC interview.
She showed up again last night at the KC concert. She just can’t get enough on showing up at kenny’s tour. LOL. I think its adorable.

Yes i agree. Just a guess…I don’t think its an engagement yet but i do think its symbolic to their relationship. Both started wearing these new rings as I know of since March. Especially Clayton. Its prominent when he plays because the camera really picks his up while playing guitar. What a coincidence? I think not. Plus that is about the time they would spend less time together since on different tours the first time in their relationship this occurs. Is it some connection to them while apart on the road? maybe just a guess. The mere fact they have these jewerly accessories and are showing up quite a bit now together is telling. Him on the CD as well. I agree something to watch and I am sure they’ll be plenty too watch.

Karen, I agree 100% with what you said. I never saw the rings until now. I don’t think it’s a coincidence either. I think it is defenitely a connection to each other for them while apart. And yes, the fact that they both have the rings and are at each others shoes defintely says something. As his Clayton being a co-writer on the new cd. And oh yes, they will be plenty to watch, I know it!

hate to be the downer, but i really dont think the fact that they are both wearing rings and they happen to be at the same events really proves anything. i mean, she was on tour with kenny and his band for two years…i’m sure after all that time they all became close friends, but not necessarily dating…if they WERE together, i think about a year of dating they would be more out and about about it…but there’s like, one picture of them together, and it’s just her hugging him(like she hugged other people) when she won her award…sorry to be a downer…and maybe they are dating…but i think people are jumping the gun, personally

i looked over the “thanks yous” on the new album that clayton helped writing a song for, and clayton was not even mentioned in jenn’s personal “thank you’s”…he was in the “collective thanks” along with the other songwriters and musicians and random people that they kinda HAVE to thank…seems suspect to me, if they are supposedly “dating” :/ sorry to put up another downer

Jenn gave an interview yesterday in the Palm Beach post where she states Something scared to her is kept close not put out there for all to see. She keeps her private stuff private not like other country female singers. The girl is dating clayton whether people think or like it. And there is more then one pic together.

lol…ok, maybe there are two random pics that still don’t prove anything…anyway, im just saying that until they both actually come out about the “relationship”(which if they haven’t after almost a year, it’s unlikely they would unless they got engaged or something), or are seen in a “romantic” situation in public, I don’t think people should jump the gun on it…It’s really nobody’s business anyhow…so BECAUSE she is so private about her personal life, I wouldn’t be going around “outting” anything that she obviously doesn’t want people knowing or talking about. whether it’s the truth or not, she obviously doesn’t want to comment. and yes, I saw the “Potter” reference on the “thanks” part from her…But “Clayton” only came up in the “collective thanks”. Ummm there is a thread that has stated something about the relationship and we are responding with opinion I didn’t start the thread here nor has any publicist denied it. Of course everyone can have an opinion like you. She seems private about discussing her life but not showing up in public with him. CMT started this last Oct and from the CMA’s, CMT headline tour, AMA, ACM and KC Tour plus a co-written song it seems a pattern. Plus other things from other fans at shows that witnessed stuff. If all this hoopla started after her showing in Nashville on the 5th why go to Atlanta on the 13th at the KC tour? Its great for them and maybe one day they will speak about it and in the meantime good for them both.

yea, i’d say nashville isnt NEAR as bad as all the other music genres are about being flippin outrageous as far as jumping to conclusions about artists. but all the invasions and “crap talk” just gets to me when it’s not even confirmed by the people that are being talked about. my mom even does is…she calls me up with a horrified tone in her voice, “DID YOU HEAR?!”…i’m thinking at this point something happened to one of our family members or something…and she says “Reese and Ryan are breaking up!!”(reese witherspoon and ryan philipe, or however you spell it)…lol…i’m like “mom…chill! you just scared the crap out of me because you heard on some tabloid tv show that two people YOU DONT EVEN KNOW personally are breaking up?” she does it all the time! lol! i guess i just feel bad for the celebrities, but i guess it’s what they sign up for…like all these people who said right away that heather ledger killed himself when it was later proven by the official tox report an “acute”, AKA “ACCIDENTAL” overdose…makes me sick for him and his family :/ anyway, so i just think that when people jump the gun, it, a lot of the time, puts a lot of pressure on the people involved in the rumors to act a certain way that they may not otherwise prefer to act because it’s expected by the public, you know? there’s other reasons this certain topic bothers me, but this is super long already so i wont get into it. haha

Yeah the celebrity life can get wacky. I am not one to get into too much into celebrity gossip but how do you get away when new gossip shows and magazines are popping up coverng the life of the rich and famous. I feel bad for the younger one’s who don’t know how to handle it and by their 20’s are crashing. jen is older and very intelligent she’ll be fine. And when it comes to tragedies like heath way over the line. I guess in jen’s case if she wanted to distance herself from the recent news then don’t show up at future KC concerts or make a denial statment by her publiclist which hasn’t happened. Taylor Swift today already had her publicist make a statement about a certain relationship. What other reason would bother you about Jen’s relationship?

He gew up in Scottsdale, Az I was in his fourth grade class. He had long hair and was more in to rock. I was surprised to hear he was in a country band, actually. He was (and is I am sure) a really nice guy! More mature than most his age for sure! He brought his guitar in for hsow and tell! Yep, we lost touch but I am so proud of him and his career! The palyboy image doesn’t fit him. And by the way, his last name really isn’t Mitchell =)

Just a little tibit I couldn’t resist sharing, especially if Sugarfan comes around here again. Last night during Sugarland’s appearance on Chelsea Lately, Jennifer was asked about her boyfriend, and she apparently replied, “It’s nice to have someone in the same line of work”. And y’all say that she and Clayton aren’t an item because neither of them has spoken up about it? Well then what do ya call that?! She spoke about it briefly on NATIONAL TELEVISION! I’d say that qualifies.

Yeah i thought we might begin to hear Jen speak a little about this. From a PR standpoint I saw over the past few months her coming out in public more and assumed she would begin to acknowledge it. This is the 2nd time this month she mentioned her boyfriend so I do agree it qualifies as a confirmation. She does deserve her privacy on it but its great to see her happy and easy to acknowledge it.

I look at things as a fan of course but also as a PR Strategist. I have seen a pattern over the past year with Jen as her career is expanding bigtime. She does pay management for a reason. I won’t go into details but I stated a few months back that you just may see her open up more soon and here we are two acknowledgments in a month. She seems private but also knows she is a celeb who will be asked about certain personal matters. If this relationship means something big then it will naturally flow out to the media and public. This is why i give Jen alot of credit on how she handled it. Pure class.
I also think she is more at ease with this and it shows in the recent interview. Funny she said it was a new relationship well not actually but thats her slow process of letting it out. I am sure by the CMA’s we’ll hear or see even more.
Just happy for her and seeing her recently in concert it shows in her performance. Beyond amazing. Sugarland continues to grow quickly and it will be interesting to see how the CMA’s are decided.

I was in Mrs. Rivera/Ostreicher’s class in the 4th grade. Lisa C. Aaron W. were both in my class. You and I had Mrs. Scott in the 5th grade. (Quote unquote) remember that? That year I had the biggest crush on Gwen.
I am not Clay’s brother. Clay and I have been close friends for over 25 years now. His brother’s name is Judson. Like Clay, he is an amazing guitar player too!! He will be teaching my daughter Tatum to play in a few months.

Sugarfan- when you say “I won’t go into details, but you may just see her open up more soon”, are you saying that Jen’s hiding something else that she hasn’t shared just yet? I am not trying to weasel anything out of (although if you have anything else that you can and feel comfortable with sharing, go ahead) I am just curious with the way you worded your reply, that’s all.
And I figured something was weird when she said that her thing with Clayton was new, I was like, “Uh, it’s close to what, 2 years now I would say? That’s not new”. But however she wants to slowly let the oh so obvious out, that’s fine. And call me crazy, but I still find it a bit strange to actually hear the words come out of her mouth, as opposed to reading them in an article. Does that make sense?
