Judge clears Chris Cagle of domestic assault charges
Chris Cagle last month said “I was wrong and I’m embarrassed” about May 27 domestic assault charges.
But he entered a not guilty plea in court, and today, a judge agreed with him.
All charges were dropped in connection with a May 27 incident where police said Cagle hit his girlfriend with her purse.
After today’s hearing, Chris’ lawyer crowed:
“It’s a shame these charges were ever brought. PERIOD! Chris was not, and never was, guilty of domestic violence, abuse or assault and the Judge properly found him ‘Not Guilty.’ Chris is relieved the accuracy of the matter has been revealed and the ordeal is over,” attorney Bill Ramsey said in a statement.
This just in: Eagles to land at Sommet Center Sept. 18
You make a country album, ya gotta play Nashville, right?
The Eagles – special guests at last year’s CMA Awards show — are set to play the Sommet Center Sept. 18.
Tix go on sale Aug. 4.
And that’s about all I know right now.
But tix at other venues on this tour are selling for, like, $45 to $185.
Sheryl Crow meets local college kids at sound check
New Nashvillian Sheryl Crow was nice enough to let 25 college kids into her sound check at the Sommet Center tonight, part of a Grammy in the School initiative with the local Recording Academy chapter.
Then Sheryl let them ask questions. Among her gems for students: The music industry is in dire trouble; she loves living in Nashville, where she can hang out with Faith Hill without photographers snapping away; Sheryl likes to put her baby to bed every night; her record label gives her lots of freedom to make her own music; Michael Jackson, her old boss, didn’t learn backup singers’ names for the first two years of a tour.
Mindy McCready is in rehab after emergency room visit
Mindy McCready is at an out-of-state rehab facility after going to Vandy’s E.R. last Wednesday, Vanderbilt officials confirmed.
But the reasons why remain unconfirmed.
That’s not stopping some Web sites from speculating.
TMZ.com says Mindy took a combination of booze and pills in an apparent suicide attempt.
TMZ also reports Dr. Phil may some how be getting involved. But Dr. Phil’s folks sounded dubious about that assertion.
People.com has a Mindy rep saying: “Other issues made it prudent for her to seek longer-term and broader-based treatment.”
Vince is doin' a James Taylor-style tour -- for four months!
Zoinks! Won’t poor Amy Grant get lonely?
The tour is going to be called “A Special Acoustic Evening With Vince Gill,” and it’ll have Vince out Aug. 18 to Nov. 24.
He’ll be on stage with only pianist Pete Wasner and percussionist Billy Thomas.
Why acoustic?
“Recently I saw James Taylor on his tour. It was a kind of one-man band show, with just him, a piano player and all those great songs,” Vince said in a statement.
“I really enjoyed watching it and I knew I would enjoy performing in that setting as well. So I’m going to tour basically the same way—pared down and informal.”
There’s no Nashville stop on the tour.
If you see a Juke Box Hero in town, it might be...
The AP reports that Mick Jones, founding member of Foreigner (Feels Like the First Time), might be coming to Nashville or Memphis to do some writing for a new album.
The band just put out a compilation called No End in Sight: The Very Best of Foreigner.
Mick says an album of new stuff is a-comin’.
And it might “have a country or rockabilly edge,” the AP reports.
Foreigner has been touring with Bryan Adams lately.
No word if he is coming here to write, too.

New country couple? Chuck Wicks & Julianne Hough?
Wait a second: Chuck Wicks has often said he wrote his breakout single, Stealing Cinderella, about his girlfriend.
Guess what? It’s midnight, Cinderella.
Word is that Chuck and fellow newcomer Julianne Hough, she of Dancing with the Stars fame, maybe be country’s newest (and cutest) couple.
It IS interesting that she showed up Monday night at a GAC taping where Chuck was performing.
And the two are both out on the Brad Paisley tour.
Hmmmm…. So what’s the official word from their peeps?
There is none. So far, anyway.
Hey hey hey! Bill Cosby is set to play TPAC Sept. 27
It has been a while since we’ve seen Bill Cosby in town.
But he’s back, for two shows Sept. 27, a 4 p.m. matinee and an 8 p.m. show.
In case you were wondering, this pic is from Bill Cosby when he was a student at my alma mater, Temple University, which apparently cranks out graduates who achieve a WIDE range of success afterward.
Tix go on sale at 10 a.m. Sunday, and they’ll run ya $37-$60.
You can call 255-ARTS or go to any TicketMaster outlet.
Or you can check out TPAC.org to get more info on the show.
Brad About Me: We won a Telly (whatever that is)!
So I am now the proud owner of a (very heavy) Telly Award trophy. I’m not exactly sure what that is, but it’s a national TV contest, and we got a second place for live shows for our pre-CMA red-carpet show last year.
I wanted to show you the staffers here who put this show together, who posed lovingly with the trophy.
