'US Weekly' captures a pic of a thin post-birth Nicole
Far be it from us here at News 2 to chase around Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman after the birth of their baby, Sunday Rose.
But if someone else does….
Looks like US Weekly found the couple Sunday.
And Nicole does indeed look thin.
Fantastic! I will celebrate this accomplishment with a Sonic combo No. 3.
Hold up: Jessica Simpson wasn't booed after all
Big Web sites like TMZ.com, The Superficial, even People.com all picked up a story from the Kenosha News in Wisconsin:
Jessica Simpson got booed at the Country Thunder USA Festival.
But four Music Row insiders at the show told me today that just didn’t happen.
And Chicago freelance reporter Liz Crokein took video and says Jessica’s show was boo-free.
By the way, the same festival has already asked her to play again next year.
Seen in the City: Keith Urban at Panera in Green Hills
Keith Urban took a break from daddy duty to go to the Mall at Green Hills.
And it looks like Nashville is still a place where country stars can wander among us with no problems.
Keith walked into Panera Bread around 1:20 p.m. and ordered his Mediterranean Veggie sandwich with just a few stares.
Then he sat at a table by himself at ate it. WACKY! Just like a normal person!
So you’re asking yourself: What is a Mediterranean Veggie? A stop by the Panera Web site reveals all.
The sandwich features Zesty Peppadew™ piquant peppers, feta cheese, cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and cilantro hummus on our Tomato Basil bread.
Keith enjoyed that in a black T-shirt and jeans, not even a hat to cover his face. Just like a normal person!!
Ouch! Wisconsin fans, newspaper not kind to Jessica
Jessica Simpson had her first country gig Saturday, opening for Sara Evans at the Country Thunder Festival in Twin Lakes, Wisc., and it wasn’t exactly smooth, according to the Kenosha News.
There was a mix of boos and cheers when Jessica hit the stage.
The roughest part: The newspaper quoted fans who don’t like Jessica in the country format.
“Just because she’s dating Tony Romo it doesn’t make her country,” Mike Rodriguez, 31, from Lake Geneva, told the paper.”She doesn’t fit in with country, and I’ll have to drink a lot of beer to sit through her concert.”
Zach Schlodt, 19, said: “She’s an embarrassment to country music.”
“I just don’t hear the country in her; I don’t hear the twang. She’s not good enough to be here,” said Adam Matos, 21.
The paper only quoted one person who liked her as a country singer.
As for Jessica herself, she told the crowd:
“I don’t know what your perception is of Jessica Simpson or what tabloid you buy, but I just want you to know that I’m just a girl from Texas; I’m just like you. I’m doing what I love and dating a boy.”
Oh boy. Jessica’s album drops Sept. 9. We shall see….
ABC's special on CMA Music Festival will air Sept. 8
Here’s your way to check out the CMA Music Festival without heat, crowds and the occasional unpleasant smells that mix brings.
The ABC special CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock is set to air Sept. 8, to be seen locally right here at the Deuce, News 2.
If you were there, you saw Taylor Swift, Kellie Pickler and Dancing with the Stars champ-turned-country singer Julianne Hough screaming out introductions at LP Field. That’s because those three lovely young ladies will be the hosts of this special.
The special will include performances by Alan Jackson, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts, Faith Hill and bunches of others.
101.1 The Beat DJ slams 'The Tennessean' on the air
Hip-hop/R&B station 101.1 The Beat Jamz says midday personality AG is also known at “Your Friendly Neighborhood Gizzle.”
But AG wasn’t very friendly to The Tennessean today.
AG was talking about an upcoming autism awareness program around 10:50 a.m. when he suddenly mentioned that he didn’t think The Tennessean covered positive stories in the African American community.
AG — who served as president of 100 Black Men of Middle Tennessee for years — suggested The Tennessean only covers shootings in the African American community.
AG (real name: Adrian Granderson) referred to the autism event again and then said:
“If we wanna get some coverage from The Tennessean, we better go and get someone shot. This is ridiculous.”
The station ownership group’s big boss, Tom English, thought that was over the top.
“I understand to a degree the frustration the African American community feels about the lack of positive news being reported in all major media. When you work as hard as AG has over the years to advance the cause, without seeing the kind of recognition positive organizations like 100 Black Men, Nashville Minority Business Center and others deserve, it tends to wear you down,” Tom said in a statement to me.
“That being said, the comments made on the air were totally over the top. We will deal with this internally but I personally apologize to The Tennessean for the remarks.”
I’m supposed to be talking with AG soon.
I have e-mailed The Tennessean’s editor, marketing guru and columnist Dwight Lewis, who often writes about issues in the African American community. None of them have yet responded.
UPDATE
AG e-mailed me this response.
“I wanted to take a few moments to briefly respond to your blog and the statement that I made earlier on the air.
“I want to first recognize and acknowledge the misstep in fully articulating my point earlier this morning. ‘…We better go and get someone shot’ was a poorly verbalized expression of a much bigger issue. An issue that goes far beyond The Tennessean and it was unfair of me to single them out.
“However, this problem supercedes those seven specific words. Those words were verbally surrounded by the color of the situation with no malice intent, only a call for action and change in how African American issues, events, and causes are covered in mainstream media.
“The fact is that I have toiled and given my life to helping others while seeing those positive events fall silent in lieu of negative images and happenings. Our children deserve to see the total picture.
“My prayer is that we do not lose the message in the mistake of a few choice words. While I regret those seven words specifically, my cause remains true, which is to continue to pursue more involvement from our community media resources - including the voice that I have - to make sure that OUR Nashville community continues to be the shining example of philanthropy, social awareness, and prosperity that I have come to know and love.
“Peace & Blessings,
“Adrian ‘A.G.’ Granderson, Middays, 101.1 The Beat Jamz”
Seen in the City: Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam at Radius 10?
It’s almost too hard to believe, isn’t it? In fact, I’m not sure I do.
But there’s at least one person at trendy Radius 10 (in the gulch between 11th and 12th avenues) who swears that Yusuf Islam, a.k.a. 1970s hippie pop star Cat Stevens (Morning Has Broken, Peace Train, Moon Shadow), had dinner there Tuesday.
Of course, Yusuf has some history here. A couple of years ago, he put out his first pop album in 28 years, and shortly afterward, he told the The New York Times he was heading to Nashville to do some recording.
And then, you might remember that two years before that, in 2004, Mr. Islam was heading here when he was flagged as a possible terrorist and forced to go back to his now-hometown of London.
So who knows?
Save the date! This year's CMA Awards set for Nov. 12
That’s right, you only have about 120 dress shopping days until this year’s CMA awards.
We do know that the show happens Nov. 12 at the Sommet Center.
And we also know that they air live again on ABC, which means you can see it on our favorite station on Earth, News 2.
But we don’t know a whole lot more yet.
It’s too early for any artists or hosts to be announced.
But we’ll keep ya posted.
Local jeweler-to-the-stars lands her bling at Jamie
So here’s your chance to look like the stars — or at least wear the same jewelry as some of them.
“Betty Badd,” a.k.a. Betty Malo, wife to singing sensation Raul Malo, has designed pieces for Lindsey Lohan, Jamie Foxx, Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban and several other stars inside and outside country music.
Now you can buy Betty Badd pieces at the exclusive Jamie store on West End Avenue, right near Belle Meade. Seems the store wants to get some younger shoppers, and it gives Betty a chance to try some more conservative pieces — or at least more conservative than her usual edgy stuff.
Keith and Nicole get a sitter to check out Pat Benatar...
But the famous new parents never showed.
Pat Benatar rocked a sold-out Wildhorse Saloon Tuesday night.
A front-row table was reserved for Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman .
Expected at the table with them: The kids Nicole adopted with ex-hubby Tom Cruise .
However, Keith and Nicole never made it, I’m told. No word on what may have happened to Sunday Rose Kidman Urban’s parents.
By the way, Pat Benatar was AWESOME!
