Trace Adkins, 38 Special rock out at CMT taping
And now a report from the CMT Crossroads taping with Trace Adkins and rock band 38 Special, courtesy News 2 rock expert/video editor extraordinaire Bob Ivy:
No suprise that the CROSSROADS taping was a very entertaining show. Country rock, like Adkins performs, owes much of its roots to the great Southern rock bands, particularly of the early 1980s.
Trace said it best when he told the crowd at the taping that he “blew out some 6 -by- 9 speakers in his truck listening to 38 Special.” And, he added, that could be verified by asking ANY of his ex-wives.
Trace his band had the chance to impress the lead vocalists from 38 Special with the first set. Trace Adkins, Donnie Van Zant and Don Barnes were out front the entire time, but the bands interchanged. Adkins band with his part of the show and the guys in 38 Special for their segment later.
Among the Trace songs: Ladies Love Country Boys and, yes, Honky Tonk Badonkadonk. The 38 Special songs included Wild Eyed Southern Boys and Hold On Loosely.
Funny moment: Most of the ladies in the audience wanted to be the make-up artist that touched up and make up for Adkins and also toweled the sweat from around his face. Yes, all three vocalists had make-up artists, but the ladies seemed to like Trace. A lot!
One great moment, and something that seperates country artist from their rock brethren: Immediately after the show, eveyone bolted to the back stage area EXCEPT for Trace Adkins, who stayed and shook hands and took pictures with any fan that wanted to say hello.
Rock performers really should follow their country co-horts lead and remember that without the fans, they don’t have fame and fortune. It takes so little time to stay and say hello in that situation and it was an opportunity missed by Barnes and Van Zant.
