Star of “Conway Twitty: The Musical” made the band cry
That’s how much he reminded Conway Twitty’s old band members of Conway himself.
Conway Twitty: The Musical stars Nashville singer-songwriter Glen Templeton as Conway, who died 15 years ago, after, among other things, scoring an amazing 55 No. 1 hits.
Glen got the job after he ended up hiring Conway’s daughter’s husband to do some backing vocals. Joni Twitty heard Glen sing and invited him to try out for the musical.
Not only was Joni convinced, but Conway’s band members were moved when they heard Glen sing Conway.
“Some of the guys were just crying, in tears, because they said that they thought Conway had been sent down tto sing with them again for a couple of hours,” Glen told me.
The show opens Sunday at TPAC before going down to Branson, Mo., for a run.
