Despite report, Tim McGraw won’t run for guv in 2010

by Brad on Dec.10, 2008, under Country music, Politics

This came from an online columnist for the conservative New Republic:

“While we’re on the subject of wacky Democratic governors, word in Nashville has it that Tim McGraw is seriously considering a run at the governor’s mansion in 2010.”

Oh really? Go on.

“He’s been floating the idea for a few years now, but with the recent thrashing of lawyer Bob Tuke by Lamar Alexander in last month’s senate race, Tennessee Dems have been casting about desperately for a high-profile Democrat not named Harold Ford to take on Bill Frist, who is almost certainly going to run.”

Tim’s camp has no comment on the report.

But I’m told that a 2010 run ain’t gonna happen. Tim’s political aspirations are there, but he likely won’t act on them for years and years to come.

And praytell WHAT exactly is Tim McGraw’s resume for running for such an important office?
Has he run for and held any form of local seat or even a community position? Seriously, WHAT are his qualifications?
I understand the Democrats don’t care about such details within their own party but the rest of Tennessee deserves better.

Tim… prove yourself first and climb the political ladder.
A Governorship is a position to be honored and not a time filler between albums and tours. Just saying…

You think the New Republic is conservative? No offense but have you ever read the New Republic??

“the Democrats don’t care about such details within their own party”

    Two words: Sarah Palin

Not that I think Tim is qualified either, but let’s not be hypocrites here

A little research wouldn’t have hurt you Brad. The New Republic is a center-left publication.
