Little Jimmy Dickens has brain surgery to fix injury

by Brad on Jan.13, 2009, under Country music

I’m afraid I don’t have much info for you.

But the Opry issued this statement late this afternoon:

“Grand Ole Opry star Little Jimmy Dickens is recovering in a Nashville area hospital following surgery today to repair a subdural hematoma.

“He is resting comfortably. The family asks for your thoughts and prayers for Jimmy as he recovers.”

Little Jimmy, 88, just celebrated 60 years on the Opry.

He has enjoyed a bit of a resurgence as of late because his friend and long-time admirer, Brad Paisley, has included him in several music videos and in a few prime-time TV appearances.

Little Jimmy also has become the unofficial face of the Opry since Porter Wagoner died.

I had the privilege of meeting Little Jimmy a few years ago. I sincerely hope he does well and I will be thinking and praying for him this week while he recovers to be back on the Grand Ole Opry the next time I’m able to go.
