There will be some sort of Dove Awards in 2010 after all

In the Christian music community, there has been a lot of buzz about the dire financial straits of the Gospel Music Association. Remember the $1,000-a-ticket fund-raiser that Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith and others put on for the GMA just a month or so ago?
At one point, word was that things were so bad that there might not be a GMA Dove Awards show next year.
But the GMA — which no longer has a paid director — apparently saved the annual awards show, at least for 2010.
The GMA just issued a press release that said, among other things, that the GMA Dove Awards will happen April 21. But no word on whether they would happen again at the Grand Ole Opry House or if they would be televised, or if they would include performances and presentations of trophies, and the show has in years past.
In fact, the only other information offered about the awards show was, “Additional details are forthcoming.”
There will also be a week of activities built around the awards show, called GMA Dove Week, which will add an artist summit and the BMI Christian Music Awards to the mix of the ASCAP Christian Music Awards and other networking chances for the industry.
If I hear more about the Doves, I’ll let ya know.
