How classic: Opry to add fourth day of shows next year
So the Opry skews kind of old school as it is, right?
Now the Opry is adding a fourth night of show, on Thursdays, to kick it super old school. It’s gonna be called Opry Country Classics and it starts next year.
Not only will the veteran Opry members sing their signature songs, but they’ll be singing classic songs from other artists, living and not.
Yes, it’ll air live on 650 WSM-AM.
Says Opry chief Steve Buchanan (who is a very snazzy dresser):
“We are pleased to introduce this new show that celebrates country music’s incredible legacy by showcasing its most familiar and beloved songs performed by the legends that made them famous as well as rising stars.”
Save the date! This year’s CMA Awards set for Nov. 12
That’s right, you only have about 120 dress shopping days until this year’s CMA awards.
We do know that the show happens Nov. 12 at the Sommet Center.
And we also know that they air live again on ABC, which means you can see it on our favorite station on Earth, News 2.
But we don’t know a whole lot more yet.
It’s too early for any artists or hosts to be announced.
But we’ll keep ya posted.
Ya can’t get enough FUSE red carpet pictures, yo
And these bad boys come from News 2 photojournalist Ray Arzate. Thanks, Ray Ray!

Have I told you the official date for the release of Jessica Simpson’s first country album?
Are you on pins and noodles?
You can own your very own copy of that album, Do You Know?, starting Sept. 9.
And Jessica says that, by gum, she is a country girl!!
“Every single song is a piece of my heart … who I am,” she said, via press release.
“I’m not what everybody thinks that I am. Believe it or not, I’m a simple country girl.”
Really?
“I might buy expensive shoes,” she continues, “but, I’m definitely a simple country girl and this album will hopefully give people a sense of who Jessica is again.”
Well… I love Jessica, but most simple country girls don’t refer to themselves in the third person. Brad doesn’t get that.
Gaylord takes us inside da club of FUSE VIPs bash
No cameras were allowed inside the FUSE VIP opening, but Gaylord Opryland Resort was kind enough to provide these pics.

Indeedy, the big VIP opening for Gaylord Opryland Resort’s “Vegas-style nightclub,” FUSE, kinda fizzled.
Yes, host Kid Rock and special guest (and reality TV star/model/one-time Playboy pin-up) Kim Kardashian — both paid to be there Sunday night — did show up for the gig. And I thought Kim was particularly sweet during her first visit to Nashville.
And a shout-out to Kid Rock’s Nashville publicist-to-the-stars, Kirt Webster, who hooked up an early interview so we could make deadline.
But about half of the “confirmed” Nashville celebs were no-shows (at least on the red carpet).
That includes Backstreet Boy Nick Carter (in town making a solo album), one-time Titans star Eddie George, model/TV host Niki Taylor and singers Billy Ray Cyrus, Keith Anderson, Jay DeMarcus from Rascal Flatts, Emmylou Harris (can’t really see her in da club anyway), Keith Anderson, Hal Ketchum, Lorrie Morgan, Chuck Wicks (Stealing Cinderella) or Joe Nichols.
And let’s not even talk about the list of alleged “maybe” invitees like Snoop Dogg, Mario Lopez, Whitney Houston or Daily Fuentes. Not one showed, again, not on the red carpet anyway.
Who was there, besides Kid and Kim? Placekicker Rob Bironas and several other Titans; a couple of guys from Lonestar; American Idol alum Diana DeGarmo (looking hot!); Ty Herndon; Intern Adam from 107.5 The River; HGTV personality Sparkle Josh Johnson (who indeed was sparkly); country singer Danielle Peck; Michael Tait (who reports dc Talk is on indefinite hiatus); and Miss America 2004 Erica Dunlap, among others.
Oh, and let’s not forget some News 2 posse, including morning anchor Julie Kroenig, Amy Napier Viteri, Tiani Jones, Stephanie Langston, and others.
More, including lots o’ pictures, coming in later….
UPDATE
I’ve heard from several folks who saw Nick Carter there. I didn’t spot him on the red carpet, but, in fact, the Backstreet Boy was in da house.

This VIP opening for Gaylord Opryland’s new “Vegas-style club,” FUSE, is getting to be quite the buzz.
Confirmed, fer sure: Kim Kardashian, Niki Taylor, Billy Ray Cyrus, Rascal Flatts’ Jay DeMarcus, Eddie George and Backstreet Boy Nick Carter.
And Joe Nichols, Lady Antebellum, American Idol alum Diana DeGarmo, Titans kicker Rob Bironas, Chuck Wicks (Stealing Cinderella), Danielle Peck and Lorrie Morgan are confirmed.
But it’s the “maybe” list that’s really interested. Invited and considering:
Snoop Dogg (who just made a country music video with Willie Nelson), Whitney Houston, Mario Lopez, Daisy Fuentes, Gabrielle Union and all the A-list Nashville country singers.
Kid Rock is set to host.
And you’re invited — after 11:30 p.m. Sunday. That’s when the public can come.

Think her water broke at Border’s? (See below.)
Nicole Kidman has given birth to a baby girl in Nashville.
In a statement, Keith Urban’s publicist said:
"Nicole and Keith Urban are delighted to announce that Nicole Kidman gave birth to a baby girl on Monday morning, July 7, 2008, in the United States. Sunday Rose Kidman Urban weighed six pounds, seven-and-a-half ounces. Husband Keith was by Nicole’s side and mother and baby are very well."
A statement on Keith’s Web site thanked everyone for their thoughts and prayers.
“We feel very blessed and grateful that we can share this joy with all of you today,” the Web site said.
Booker T., Crickets, Al Kooper to rock Schermerhorn
The best part about the Musicians Hall of Fame inductions is that they do a show where inductees rock.
This year’s show/inductees:
Booker T. and the MGs (which includes Nashville’s Steve “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay” Cropper; The Memphis Horns; The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section; The Crickets; Al Kooper; and producer/songwriter/musician extraordinaire Billy Sherrill, who has worked lots with George Jones.
That show happens Oct. 28 at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.
Tix are $50 to $200, and you can get them through the Nashville Symphony Web site.
Oh, and is the Hotness scaring anyone else?
Seen in the City: Kelly Clarkson at hall of fame ceremony
We’ve seen OAIC (Original American Idol champ) Kelly Clarkson around town a lot lately.
You might remember she was at John Rich’s monthly talent contest at 12th & Porter last month.
Sunday night, Kelly was at the Country Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony for the Statler Brothers and Tom T. Hall.
Kelly was hanging out with her bestest country gal pal Reba McEntire, who was there for a singing tribute to the Statler Brothers.
Kelly did not sing for the Statler Brothers.
