Taylor Swift and Jonas Brothers dude are just friends

That’s according to Taylor’s publicist, anyway.

The Web has been burning up for a couple of weeks or so about the rumored romance between Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers and Taylor Swift of, uh, Taylor Swift.

Seems Taylor has been spotted at several Jonas Brothers shows. So let the rumors begin!

Taylor’s publicist says the rumors have no merit. (Side note: This will be a great relief to my teen nephew Ethan, who seems to have a crush on Ms. Swift. On the other hand, Ethan’s idiot uncle just announced on the Web that Ethan has a crush on her. So this whole post is kind of a wash for Ethan.)

Taylor’s publicist says of Taylor and Joe:

“They are friends. She’s friends with all three of the Jonas Brothers. She has been out to see a few shows as she was invited to appear in their live concert movie.”

So there.

Taylor’s publicist had no comment on Taylor and my nephew Ethan.

Black Crowes say Gretchen Wilson ripped them off

Check it out: The Black Crowes say Gretchen Wilson’s new song, Work Hard, Play Harder – being used to plug TNT’s Saving Grace – sounds a little too much like their 1991 hit, Jealous Again.

Click on the links above and tell me what you think.

So the Black Crowes have filed a copyright-infringement suit. And not just against Gretchen.

The suit names Gretchen’s label, Sony BMG, publishing company J Money Music and TNT.

Those Crowes are MAD, yo!

No response from Gretchen.

Seen in the City: Just call Tootsies’ “the Wiggles room”

The Wiggles, an Aussie band for kids, has a strict no-drinking, no-swearing, no-smoking police for the entire organization.

But that didn’t stop one of the Wiggles, Murray Cook – in town for a couple of shows today at Municipal Auditorium — from hitting the Lower Broadway honky-tonks last night.

Murray likes to hear all sorts of different music, and he says he wanted to check out the country bands in those bars.

Then a funny thing happened — some parents of Wiggles-aged kids recognized him.

“I was actually surprised a few people recognized me in those places,” he told me today.

“It was kind of nice. It made me feel very welcome.”

Hmmmmm. Not very, uh, “uncomfortable”?

Oh well. That’s almost as much fun as when Barney hit Bobby’s Idle Hour.

This just in: Eagles to land at Sommet Center Sept. 18

You make a country album, ya gotta play Nashville, right?

The Eagles – special guests at last year’s CMA Awards show — are set to play the Sommet Center Sept. 18.

Tix go on sale Aug. 4.

And that’s about all I know right now.

But tix at other venues on this tour are selling for, like, $45 to $185.

Sheryl Crow meets local college kids at sound check

New Nashvillian Sheryl Crow was nice enough to let 25 college kids into her sound check at the Sommet Center tonight, part of a Grammy in the School initiative with the local Recording Academy chapter.

Then Sheryl let them ask questions. Among her gems for students: The music industry is in dire trouble; she loves living in Nashville, where she can hang out with Faith Hill without photographers snapping away; Sheryl likes to put her baby to bed every night; her record label gives her lots of freedom to make her own music; Michael Jackson, her old boss, didn’t learn backup singers’ names for the first two years of a tour.

Vince is doin’ a James Taylor-style tour — for four months!

Zoinks! Won’t poor Amy Grant get lonely?

The tour is going to be called “A Special Acoustic Evening With Vince Gill,” and it’ll have Vince out Aug. 18 to Nov. 24.

He’ll be on stage with only pianist Pete Wasner and percussionist Billy Thomas.

Why acoustic?

“Recently I saw James Taylor on his tour. It was a kind of one-man band show, with just him, a piano player and all those great songs,” Vince said in a statement.

“I really enjoyed watching it and I knew I would enjoy performing in that setting as well. So I’m going to tour basically the same way—pared down and informal.”

There’s no Nashville stop on the tour.

If you see a Juke Box Hero in town, it might be…

The AP reports that Mick Jones, founding member of Foreigner (Feels Like the First Time), might be coming to Nashville or Memphis to do some writing for a new album.

The band just put out a compilation called No End in Sight: The Very Best of Foreigner.

Mick says an album of new stuff is a-comin’.

And it might “have a country or rockabilly edge,” the AP reports.

Foreigner has been touring with Bryan Adams lately.

No word if he is coming here to write, too.

Seen in the City: Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam at Radius 10?

It’s almost too hard to believe, isn’t it? In fact, I’m not sure I do.

But there’s at least one person at trendy Radius 10 (in the gulch between 11th and 12th avenues) who swears that Yusuf Islam, a.k.a. 1970s hippie pop star Cat Stevens (Morning Has Broken, Peace Train, Moon Shadow), had dinner there Tuesday.

Of course, Yusuf has some history here. A couple of years ago, he put out his first pop album in 28 years, and shortly afterward, he told the The New York Times he was heading to Nashville to do some recording.

And then, you might remember that two years before that, in 2004, Mr. Islam was heading here when he was flagged as a possible terrorist and forced to go back to his now-hometown of London.

So who knows?

Local jeweler-to-the-stars lands her bling at Jamie

So here’s your chance to look like the stars — or at least wear the same jewelry as some of them.

Betty Badd,” a.k.a. Betty Malo, wife to singing sensation Raul Malo, has designed pieces for Lindsey Lohan, Jamie Foxx, Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban and several other stars inside and outside country music.

Now you can buy Betty Badd pieces at the exclusive Jamie store on West End Avenue, right near Belle Meade. Seems the store wants to get some younger shoppers, and it gives Betty a chance to try some more conservative pieces — or at least more conservative than her usual edgy stuff.

Keith and Nicole get a sitter to check out Pat Benatar…

But the famous new parents never showed.

Pat Benatar rocked a sold-out Wildhorse Saloon Tuesday night.

A front-row table was reserved for Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman .

Expected at the table with them: The kids Nicole adopted with ex-hubby Tom Cruise .

However, Keith and Nicole never made it, I’m told. No word on what may have happened to Sunday Rose Kidman Urban’s parents.

By the way, Pat Benatar was AWESOME!
