Jessica/Tony split is supposedly confirmed
The Dallas Morning News is one of a couple of media outlets that swears it has iron-clad sources saying part-time Nashvillian/future country star Jessica Simpson and Dallas QB/Carrie Underwood ex Tony Romo are done.
“After taking several oaths not to divulge my sources, two people close to Tony and Jess have told me that the glam couple is splitsville, kaput, over, put a fork in it,” a Dallas columnist writes.
This comes despite Jessica’s rep tells E! Online on Wednesday: “Not true, not true! I spoke to Jess yesterday and the day before. They are still together.”
And TV’s Extra, which airs right here on News 2, reported Tuesday, after talking to Jess, that split rumors are false.
So who really knows….
I’ll tell ya who. Our very own 10 p.m. news producer extraordinaire, Texas native Denise Killian, who also worked in Dallas for three years. Denise spent enough time around news sources that she SWEARS that her sources KNOW that Jessica and Tony are broken up.
So there! Denise is never wrong.
53 ladies try out to be Titans cheerleaders 2008
The place: City Hall. The noise level: Through the roof.
I got to be one of the 12 judges (yeah, yeah, tough gig, but anything for the community), as did former Titan Benji Olsen. Good times!
Better late than never: Keith/Nicole love the Preds
Keith Urban and a pregnant Nicole Kidman probably woke up that baby by going to two of the Preds/Red Wings playoff games at the Sommet Center, including Sunday’s game.
A fine photographer by the name of John Russell took this pic Sunday. Thanks, homie.
Titans’ Cortland Finnegan is single no mo’
You might recall that Titans defensive end Cortland Finnegan appeared in the Nashville Lifestyles “Single in the City” issue.
Turns out that issue is a great dating service. Cortland said he met a lovely young lady by being in the magazine.
“That got me a date!” Cortland told me today at the annual Don Ellis fund-raiser golf tourney. “So thank you, Nashville Lifestyles Singe in the City. For real.”
Teammate Nick Harper’s assessment of Cortland’s new lady:
“Very beautiful. He did good. I think she’s downgraded, but that’s OK.”
Celebs give all sort of reasons to play golf today
But the bottom line: It’s a beautiful day and who wouldn’t wanna skip work to play golf and help a charity — any charity.
“I don’t really have to know the details about the charity,” said Joe Diffie, smiling. “I’m just happy to help out.”
For the record, it’s the annual Don Ellis golf tourney for Special Olympics, Don Ellis being a country singer who had some fun in a duo called The Ellis Brothers.
“Doggone it, the music biz hasn’t ever been the kindest to him. And he’s a good little singer and got a breat band going and I just always liked him,” said Vince Gill. “He’s a good guy. I’m glad to be out here helping him out.”
Funny thing is, Don didn’t even make it today. He’s involved in some mysterious reality TV show…
More than $20,000 was raised for Special Olympics today.
Eli Manning marries Brentwood Academy grad in Mexico
How sad for Brentwood, Tenn.!
I think the whole tony suburb was psyched about rumors that New York Giants QB Eli Manning would marry Brentwood Academy grad Abby McGrew – Eli’s college sweetheart — in Williamson County. After all, it was only a year ago that Eli and Abby, who works for a New York designer, were at Easter services at Brentwood United Methodist Church.
Alas, the New York Daily News reports that the happy couple opted for Cabo San Lucas in Mexico instead.
The paper said it was small, only 60 guests at a beachfront ceremony at a swanky resort.
Abby had a strapless white gown with gold embroidering and a large bow and short train in the back.
Yes, Eli’s bro, Colts QB Peyton Manning, was in the house, and he whispered some words of encouragement to Eli, the Daily News reports.
Kevin Carter event is still THE top fund-raiser in town
Very rarely do you get big sports figures and big country figures together at the same event, but former Titan Kevin Carter does it better than anyone in town. His annual “Waiting for Wishes” fund-raiser dinner at the Palm raises something like $100,000 for Make-A-Wish.
Funny thing is, the longer he’s gone from Nashville, the more star power Kevin seems to get. In the crowd: LeAnn Rimes, John Rich of Big & Rich, New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees, linebacker Keith Bulluck, Rascal Flatts’ Jay DeMarcus and more.
Humungous Titan defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch was paid $5,000 to sing Summer Loving with Jay DeMarcus. Kyle had the guy part, but he and Jay sputtered after a few seconds because they didn’t know the words. (Who doesn’t know the words to Summer Loving?)
John Rich raised $8,000 for a membership in his private downtown club in only about three minutes.
Sara’s matchmaker? It’s her marriage counselor!
I am NOT kidding. There’s a “relationships expert” in town by the name of Joe Beam, who you can check out at the Web site of his company, Family Dynamics. You might know of Joe from a Sunday night show he used to have on WLAC, and he also has been on the Today show, Good Morning America and others.
Anyhoo, he met Sara and served as her “spiritual advisor” during her divorce from Craig Schelske, his publicist, Wade Jackson, told me.
I’m also told Beam served the same role for Sara’s fiance, Alabama sports radio personality Jay Barker.
So, check it out, when Sara’s and Jay’s marriages fell apart, their mutual marriage counselor/”spiritual advisor,” Beam, actually introduced them to each other, Sara’s camp confirmed today. Crazy! Talk about a full service marriage counselor! Say, if that marriage thing doesn’t work out, I might have another spouse candidate in mind….
Mr. Joe Beam wasn’t available for comment today.
But his involvement in this matchmaking might go even further. I’m told Beam, a longtime minister, will actually do the marriage ceremony for Jay and Sara.
Spokesmen for Joe Beam and Sara wouldn’t confirm or deny that today.
Kenny’s 40: Roger Clemens, Tim & Faith, oh my!
I got quite a few e-mails from folks breathlessly saying they saw controversial seven-time Cy Young winner Roger Clemens in town yesterday.
Random, right? Turns out he has been buddies with Kenny Chesney for several years, even went on stage during Kenny’s last Madison Square Garden show in New York, home to Clemens’ Yankees.
So Roger was the surprise guest for Kenny’s 40th birthday bash last night at trendy Cabana restaurant/club in Hillsboro Village. Also in the house: Patriots’ Junior Seau, NASCAR champ Sterling Marlin and music superstar friends Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Kix Brooks of Brooks & Dunn, Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland, Dierks Bentley and Kellie Pickler.
“Looking around this room, I don’t know what to say,” Kenny told the 200 in attendance, according to his publicist.
“Every one of them means so much to me, who I am and how I got here… and to see them all here, it makes me realize what a gift all the people in my life have been.”
Party highlight: As Kenny’s music buddy and former labelmate Jason D. Williams sang I’ll Fly Away, Kenny, Faith and Kellie each did a verse, with Faith blowing the doors off the place.
Sara is engaged to former ‘Bama star QB
Wow, check out this speedy timeline.
Sara Evans and her hubby, Craig, finish up a nasty divorce in September.
In November, Sara starts dating Jay Barker, a Birmingham sports radio dude who lead Alabama’s football team to a national championship in 1992.
Guess who confirmed her engagement this week?
“The couple are enjoying their engagement and lok forward to their upcoming nuptials,” Sara’s label publicist tells People.com, which also is the source of this picture.
Looks like Jay completed his pass. Whoa! Terrible joke! Love it.
