Cagle apologizes for dom. violence, insists he wasn’t drunk
Chris Cagle (What Kinda Gone) has broken his silence on his May 27 domestic assault arrest, issuing a statement to News 2 where he says he accepts full responsibility.
But Chris also insists he wasn’t drunk, as Metro Police officers assert in their reports from the incident.
“This argument was not elevated nor induced because of my being intoxicated. I’ve worked too hard and come this far,” he said in a statement read to News 2 at his fan club party today at Nashville Shores.
“And to prove this, I asked to take a sobriety test and a Breathalyzer test and was denied the opportunity by the police officer on site.”
A Metro Police spokesperson said only that the matter is now with the prosecutor and the facts will be tried in court.
Police said in arrest papers that Cagle and his girlfriend, Jennifer Tant, got in a fight after drinking at a Bellevue bar. Police said Tant hit the singer with an umbrella and he hit her with her purse. The reports indicated both were intoxicated.
Cagle said in his statement he takes responsibility.
“I am indeed in a relationship. And in relationships, there will be arguments. And I take full responsibility for my actions,” he said. “I was wrong and I’m embarrassed.
“I’m not placing the blame or pointing the finger at anyone – at Jennifer, at the police or the media. I’m a human being who was involved in an argument. End of story.”

‘People’: Shania and Mutt split over a Swiss Miss
People wins the race for floating the first theory for why Shania Twain and producer Robert (Mutt) Lange split after 14 years.
People’s sources blame another woman.
Said splitter-upper: Marie-Anne Thiebaud, longtime secretary and manager of the couple’s chateau. It’s ALWAYS the chateau manager!! But I digress.
“Mutt and Marie-Anne left their spouses for each other and are still in a relationship,” one source tells People.
Mutt says that that rumor about his Swiss Miss is wrong.
“It’s absolutely not the reason [for the separation],” he said.
Mutt further denies he and Marie-Anne are romantically involved.
Carrie literally can’t let go of her Opry trophy
Carrie just loved getting inducted into the Opry Saturday night.
She did her press conference clutching the trophy they give Opry members, and she never let go.
“I’ve set it down. But I don’t think I’ve not touched it since I got it,” Carrie told reporters afterward. “It may sleep with me.”
Mindy to ‘Daily News’: I had sex with the Rocket
Mindy McCready has told the Daily News in New York that she had a sexual relationship with Roger Clemens as the newspaper had reported the day before.
“I cannot refute anything in the story,” Mindy told the newspaper, reading from a prepared statement.
In that first story, Clemens’ lawyers said the pitcher “flatly denies” having sex with Mindy.
The newspaper said the two met when she was 15, but the sexual relationship didn’t start until after she moved to Nashville and her country career took off.
Mindy went on to say she shouldn’t be the focus of the Rocket’s juicing investigations.
“Yes, I have known Roger Clemens for a long time. He’s a kind and caring man. He’s also a legendary athlete. The central topic in the debate, however, regards his professional life, not his personal life.
“There are legal matters working their way through the system that have nothing to do with me. From my point of view, that is where the focus should remain.”
Music Row murder leaves ex-’SNL’ star’s father dead
A songwriter has been charged with stabbing to death his longtime Music Row buddy and roommate Tom Oteri, who also was the father of Saturday Night Live alum Cheri Oteri, Metro Police say.
It’s a story that has lots of Music Row in shock, as Tom had been a music publisher in town for years, and his accused murderer was his close friend, Rich Fagan, 61, who co-wrote John Michael Montgomery hits Be My Baby Tonight and Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident).
The incident started Saturday night when Fagan (pictured here) was arrested for DUI after admitting he had had six shots before getting behind the wheel, police said.
Before that, though, Fagan said he got in a fight with Oteri at their home at 204 Burgandy Hill Road. Fagan told a friend about the fight, and the friend later went to check on Oteri and eventually called police after Oteri didn’t answer his knocks on the door.
Oteri had been cut across his body with a pocket knife, police said.
Police found Fagan still with his bondsman Sunday afternoon shortly after Fagan got out of jail on the DUI charge.
Clemens denies affair with McCready
Pitching ace Roger Clemens and Mindy McCready had a 10-year affair that started when Mindy was 15, the Daily News of New York reported today.
The newspaper cited sources, but Clemens — recently in town for Kenny Chesney’s 40th birthday bash — adamantly denied through a lawyer that he had a sexual relationship with the singer.
“He flatly denies having had any kind of an inappropriate relationship with her,” attorney Rusty Hardin told the Daily News. “He’s considered her a close family friend. … He has never had a sexual relationship with her.”
The paper quoted sources saying the two met when Mindy was a 15-year-old aspiring singer doing karaoke and Clemens was a married father of two.
The paper also says details could come out in a documentary that Mindy starts making today.

The new Lonestar helps and old school
Gotta love when the local celebs help local schools, like, say, Taylor Swift and Diamond Rio singing for a Brentwood school’s music program, and the Tim/Faith shows for Ensworth School’s efforts for Habitat for Humanity.
Add to the list the recently revamped Lonestar (with new lead singer Cody Collins) playing for Hillsboro elementary and middle schools, which are Williamson County’s oldest schools. It’s also in — and yes, these exist — a low-income area of Williamson County.
The show happens at 6 p.m. Thursday this week, at the school’s gym.

A quick word on the tornado damage
You may have noticed little entertainment news here in the last day or two, and that’s because I have been helping the station with tornado/gas plant explosion stories.
I found a woman who lives close to that plant last night. Today, I spent several hours in a tornado-ravaged part of Hickman County, 5-10 miles from Centerville, Tenn., which is 90 minutes or so southwest of Nashville.
One of the producers asked me how different it is to see damage in person. The answer: It’s a big difference.
I mean, seeing the damage and hearing survivors’ stories on TV is pretty compelling. But seeing the damage yourself, and hearing those stories in person is powerful stuff.
The most moving, for me, came in line at the Hardee’s in Centerville, Tenn. (God forbid I go a few hours without food.)
A survivor was in line in front of me, saw the News 2 logo on my jacket, and she proceeded to tell me — in front of the cash registers — that she and her husband and her children lost everything.
The woman, who hadn’t slept in 40+ hours, said the house was destroyed. But she and her kids, ages 4 and 7, hid under mattresses under a staircase.
“I was scared to death, but I didn’t want my children to see that,” the woman told me.
“So I, well, I said a little prayer. I looked at my kids and I said, ‘Jesus loves us. Jesus loves us. He’ll take care of us.’
“And he did.”
