Hair’s the thing: Dierks’ buzz!
Dierks Bentley has tongues wagging with his new video for his song, Long Way Home.
Is it because of a big political message? Some profanity? Are things on fire? Super cute animals?
Nope.
In it, Dierks plays a guy who gets tossed in prison — where they shear off his signature locks.
What??
And Dierks has kept it that way, causing massive conversation on Web pages.
So HERE is the link to see the video for yourself. E-mail me at brad@wkrn.com if you wanna let me know — hair or no hair, that is the question.
Backstage for RHCP?
I didn’t make it backstage to The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ show, but a bartender at Tootsies did. Yes, onlookers at Tootsies said they saw RHCP drummer Chad Smith before he made it inside the honky tonk’s door. Chad tried to jump a parking meter on Broadway when his jeans caught the top and he took a little tumble, hurting his wrist. Thankfully, Chad’s injury didn’t stop him from beating the drums later on.
Chad and some members of the RHCP crew (according to a Tootsies bartender) took a spot at the bar early Tuesday evening. They apparently returned several hours later, after hitting up other honky tonks on lower broad. The bartender remembered what drinks the gang ordered, impressing the guys so much they gave her two backstage passes to the show!

The Red Hot Chili Peppers played to a packed rowdy crowd at the GEC Wednesday.
When lead singer Anthony Kiedis welcomed the crowd he said, “I have a lot of friends in Tennessee…old ones, young ones, dead ones.”

The guys came out for an encore and rocked “Soul to Squeeze” and “Give it Away.” Earlier in the night the Peppers played a Ramones tune, Kiedis referred to the punk band as ‘a little honky tonk bar band.’
The Red Hot Chili Peppers have made musical history by holding the record for the most amounts of weeks at Number One at Modern Rock Radio (all singles combined) for a total of 77 weeks!
Multiple-Grammy nominees Gnarls Barkley opened the show. Lead singer, Cee-Lo Green was dressed down in jeans and a wife-beater. The crowd went crazy when “Crazy” was performed and Violent Femme’s “Gone Daddy Gone.”
Carrie’s Party

Carrie Underwood celebrated with her songwriters and a large crowd at ASCAP Wednesday afternoon. She threw two number one parties for “Don’t Forget to Remember Me” and “Before He Cheats.” Many of those invited brought their kids along and Carrie was busy signing autographs while celebrating.
Before speaking to the #1 party-goers, Carrie discussed many items with the press and denied dating Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo.
Chili Peppers’ night get too hot?
Chad Smith, drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, played last night’s GEC show with a bandaged wrist.
Seems he sprained it the night before while carousing around Nashville.
“I tried to jump over one of your parking meters,” Chad told me. “Maybe they’re higher here than they are in L.A.
“I’m a little banged up, but I’ll live. I’ve got two days off. I’ll be OK.”
Chad stopped by the Musicians’ Hall of Fame on Sixth Avenue South today to meet fans and to see his exhibit there.
Turns out Chad met the curator of the museum last year in California, and they’ve been buddies since.
Today, Chad donated a tube sock to his exhibit. Chili Peppers fans’ll understand why.
Web Exclusive: Carrie, QBS, “Idol”
Here’s an interview with Carrie Underwood at yesterday’s ASCAP party to celebrate two of Carrie three No. 1 radio hits.
Hear Carrie, unedited, talk about her non-relationship with Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo and her thoughts on the brand-new season of American Idol.

Carrie: I’m not dating Dallas QB
And furthermore, Carrie Underwood said today she never HAS dated Dallas quarterback Tony Romo.
All those rumors got kicked off when Carrie and Tony were spotted on the field together before the Cowboys Christmas Day game.
“The first time we met was on Christmas and it kind of took on a life of its own from there,” Carrie said. “He’s a very sweet guy. And any girl who would date him would be lucky, but it’s not me.”
The brouhaha that broke out after that Christmas Day meeting was cute at first, but then it took an uncomfortable turn, Carrie said.
Some sports commentators speculated last week that Tony was distracted by Carrie when he bobbled the snap for what would’ve been the winning field goal in a playoff game against the Seahawks.
“I did NOT cause Dallas to lose the game,” Carrie said. “That was kind of hard.
“I know it was probably very hard for him to deal with people saying he didn’t care about football.”
Carrie caught some of the speculation on TV, calling that the “worst part” of this episode.
“There was one in particular that referred to me as ’some babe.’ And that stung. Because you don’t call a lady ’some babe.’”
Carrie says all this caused her to realize she might need a thicker skin.
Carrie was at ASCAP today to celebrate two of her three No. 1 singles, and she spent most of the time talking to reporters about how happy she is about those songs, about the dozens of high-profile awards she has won, about her Grammy nominations and about working on a new album.
Despite the slight detour into the Tony Romo story, Carrie really was happy and upbeat.
And yes, in case you were wondering, Carrie is watching the new season of American Idol. And she plans on picking up the phone and voting for her favorites.
Chili Peppers hit Tootsie’s
Check it out: Here’s Chad Smith, drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, hanging out last night with Ryan, one of the guys at Tootsie’s honky-tonk on Lower Broadway.
The Chili Peppers play at the GEC tonight, hitting the stage around 8:45 p.m. Red-hot duo Gnarls Barkley is expected on stage around 7:30 p.m.
You too can have some private time with Chad Smith. He’ll be at the Musician’s Hall of Fame, 301 6th Ave. S., near the GEC, around 3:30 p.m. tomorrow.
Seems Chad has an exhibit there and he’s going to donate some more items tomorrow. After that, he’s all yours.
He’ll do one autograph for each Nashville fan. It’ll cost ya $14.95 to get into the museum.
Why does Chad love Nashville so much? He’s in tight with the Dixie Chicks, played on their last album, Taking the Long Way Home, so he has done some recording here.
Interesting aside: That Chicks album is up against the Peppers’ Stadium Arcadium for best album at next month’s Grammy awards.
The Chili Peppers have a long history here in Nashville, starting in the early to mid ’80s when they played their first gig here at The Cannery, now rock club Mercy Lounge off 8th Avenue South.
Back then, the only station playing them in town was WRVU on Vandy’s campus.
The guys were on a club tour in the South, and they had a Thursday night open, and then club booker Bill Satterfield — now a News 2 assignment editor — got ‘em cheap.
The guys got a $1,200 guarantee. And fans got a deal, too. Tix were about $8. (FYI, Bob Mueller paid $70 for his 19-year-old daughter to go to tonight’s show.)
Back to the ’80s: The Chili Peppers ended up at what was then Mack’s Country Kitchen (now Ken’s Sushi) near Vandy’s campus.
Flea had so much fun at dinner, he went outside and did some handsprings along 21st Avenue, all the while insisting he and other band members were drug free.
As for the show itself, it was an overflow crowd, with fans driving from Knoxville, Memphis and Kentucky.
“People told me for years, that’s the best rock show they’d ever seen,” Bill says. “They knocked everyone’s brains out.”
Update: Keith likely to play GEC
So earlier I blogged (Is that a verb?) that Keith Urban’s world tour won’t come to Nashville this summer when he hits the States.
And I’m right. The closest he’ll get is Knoxville.
But it turns out Keith’s peeps are making plans for a second leg.
Promoters already are talking to the GEC about Keith playing a date in November or December this year.
So stay tuned.
Taylor Swift in Action!
Seventeen-year-old Taylor Swift is gearing up for the release of her second single Teardrops On My Guitar. This comes following the breakout success of her debut single Tim McGraw.
Monday Taylor shot the video for the single at Hume-Fogg Magnet School with none other than One Tree Hill’s Tyler Hilton. You may remember Hilton as Elvis Presley in Walk the Line. Taylor and Hilton met at a “meet & greet,” she invited him onstage and asked him in front of the crowd to be in her video and the rest is history!
Teardrops On My Guitar is slated for release in mid-February. Taylor says the song is about a guy she used to have a crush on, who would talk to her about another girl he liked.
We know the teenage cutie isn’t crying now, she is currently on tour with music legend George Strait and will join Brad Paisley on the road beginning in the spring.
Carrie Throws Down!
Carrie Underwood is celebrating not one, but two number one hits! Wednesday she will have a private party at ASCAP for Don’t Forget to Remember Me and Before He Cheats.
Carrie says on her website that Don’t Forget to Remember Me was the second song that she felt a connection with, after Jesus, Take the Wheel. She says the first time she heard it she cried, because she was feeling homesick. Carrie says, ” I got the lyrics and managed to loose them in a stack of papers that I was sending home. My mother got the package and read through the lyrics. She called me and said that the song made her cry, too, and she only read the words. She said that it was “our song.” In that moment, I knew that no matter how hard it would be to get through, I had to record it.”
Carrie also has a disclaimer on her site about Before He Cheats. Check it out at http://www.carrieunderwoodofficial.com/
