'Dancing' strikes Olympic gold, and young and old
Have you heard the lineup for this season’s Dancing with the Stars?
Soap star Susan Lucci, recent Beijing Olympics gold medal winner Misty May-Treanor, TV reality show/rich girl Kim Kardashian and former ‘N Sync star Lance Bass.
Oh, but that’s not all. The oldest-ever competitor, Cloris Leachman, 82, (Mary Tyler Moore) and the youngest-ever competitor, Hannah Montana actor Cody Linley, 18.
Dancing kicks off Sept. 22 right here on News 2.
Stone Temple Pilots rocks Opry House, despite fears
This report from News 2 rock lover/producer extraordinaire Karen (Special K) Higbee:
Stone Temple Pilots rocked the Grand Ole Opry Sunday night to a packed house.
There was speculation about what to expect with the Reunion Tour. Concerns grew about the Nashville show after their date in Tampa was canceled two days prior.
The cancelation was blamed on the weather, but word is lead singer Scott Weiland didn’t show. Weiland has struggled with drug addiction, and stories have swirled about disasters on the tour.
No disasters last night; the Grammy-winning rock band did not disappoint. Scott, brothers Robert and Dean DeLeo, and Eric Kretz brought the house down for about two hours with hits including Creep and Sex Type Thing.
After a five minute STP chant from the audience, an encore followed with mega hit Dead and Bloated and a very mellow blues version of Trippin’ on a Hole in a Paper Heart.
The band closed the night by taking a bow and bringing out their crew for a round of applause. Seems like Nashville got lucky, YO!!
Billy Graham's daughter here to screen film about Dad
You might remember that a Billy Graham movie called Billy: The Early Years was made right here in Middle Tennessee — and here’s a pic of actor Armie Hammer playing a young Billy Graham.
That movie is coming out Oct. 10, but movie makers are building a buzz by screening the movie in churches all over the country. (That’s similar to what Mel Gibson did with The Passion of the Christ.)
Tonight is Nashville’s turn, or more specifically, Brentwood.
Dozens of evangelical “opinion makers” have been invited to the Brentwood Baptist Church to see the Depression-era movie, which is about, well, Billy Graham’s early years when Billy first got the call.
Among those attending tonight: Billy Graham’s oldest daughter, Gigi Graham.

Skynyrd may get next star on Music City Walk of Fame
You know ‘em, you love ‘em, you’ve consumed gallons of whiskey while crankin’ up that Southern rock music.
So what if Lynyrd Skynyrd isn’t a Nashville band. The band’s management is here, right? They’ve played here a lot. So that counts!
Breaking exclusive news!!
Word is the guys are set to get the next star on the Music City Walk of Fame, that fairly new walk of stars in the park between the Country Music Hall of Fame and the downtown Hilton hotel.
That hasn’t been finalized yet, but it could happen as early as Sept. 18.
Comedian Shawn Wayans makes his first trip to Nashville
And here’s what the Scary Movie/White Chicks star expects from Nashville.
“Hot chicks, country music, good food and artist friendly. And hot as hell,” Shawn Wayans tells me today.
I’d say that’s pretty right on.
Shawn is doing two shows each Friday and Saturday night at Zanies, and he’ll do one Sunday night as well.
My fave part of visiting Shawn at Zanies –
While looking at the all the comics’ pics on the walls, he broke into an Adam Sandler impersonation.

Rocker Will Hoge is upgraded to stable this afternoon
Vanderbilt Medical Center physicians upgraded Nashville rocker Will Hoge to stable condition this afternoon after he smashed his motor scooter into a van Wednesday night in East Nashville.
“Mr. Hoge suffered multiple injuries during the accident, however, he is progressing according to plans,” Vanderbilt’s Dr. John A. Morris Jr. said in a statement.
Will’s label also issued a statement through the hospital.
“Will’s friends and fans have been tremendous. We appreciate their continued support and prayers,” said promotions manager Jon Sheperd.
You can post messages for Will at his Web site or on his MySpace page.
Vince Gill to do fund-raiser show at new condo park
Vince Gill is on a four-month tour, but he’s using one of his rare days off to do a fund-raiser show for the Belmont Mansion.
How ’bout this guy, huh??
The event is called Moonlight & Ice, and it’s gonna happen in a new park in a trendy new condo complex in Midtown.
Adelicia Park is at Division Street and 20th Avenue South and it goes down there Sept. 15.
But it won’t be cheap. General admission is $150 and VIP seats are $350. This of course includes cocktails and fancy snacks.
You can get those tix by calling the mansion at 460.5459 or you can Miranda Wickwire at miranda@cornerrealtypartners.com.
Kix Brooks kicks it up a notch with concerts at his winery
You knew it was a matter of time before Kix Brooks of Brooks & Dunn would start having concerts at Arrington Vineyards, his Williamson County winery.
But that honky-tonkin’ boot-stompin’ Brooks & Dunn music might not seem to fit at a cultured classy grape field, right?
This first concert should be a perfect fit. Acoustic folkie Nanci Griffith will play Oct. 11.
The $27.75 tickets went on sale today through Ticketmaster outlets.
You can bring non-alcoholic beverages and food, but no coolers. Arrington Vineyards will be selling some food, and wine, of course.
Tim, Faith and Martina all love Bruce Springsteen
EVERYBODY loves The Boss.
Even the country stars. Remember that Kenny Chesney actually covered a Bruce Springsteen song.
So it’s no surprise that a few country stars showed up to Bruce’s show. But Kenny wasn’t one of them.
Tim McGraw and Faith Hill were in the house. Their buddies, the Warren Brothers, were also there.
Martina McBride and her sound whiz hubby, John McBride, loved it, and one of the Rascal Flatts guys were all dancin’ in the dark.
